Purchaser opening-up an electronic device upon receipt....before trying it out...!?!?!

A bit of guidance required, folks....

Just sold a working hi-fi  component. Despite better judgement, I conceeded my "Collection ONLY" as the purchaser was prepared to organise and pay-for a courier to collect "at their own risk" etc. Packed-up in some original manufacurer's packaging. We had made verbal contact with one another, post-sale and got-on. Upon receipt and prior to running the unit, the buyer opened it up. They noted that various plastic components to be damaged....still unsure whether that affects useage...'certainly not an issue for me as I didn't open it...ever...why would I?! I am aware this is a he-said; he-said issue and I have just told the buyer to return it and I'll refund.....but I still feel as mad as a box of snakes. Soothing guidance please

read up on eBay buyer protection and you will see that by sending their own carrier they void buyer protection.
