On the 5th of April 2021, I purchase from an Ebay seller a Breville Iron 3100, after searching and comparing all makes. It arrived, I read carefully the instructions as systems change so drastically every year, and proceeded to try it out. I have only used it no more than 4 times, I have a sick husband who keeps me too busy. Last night as I started using it, it started leaking from between the end of the plates, but as I had a lot of ironing to do, I continue this morning. Before I started checked again the instructions, and followed them again to the rule. One important thing, there are two lights and it instructs you to wait until one is gone, it means the iron is ready to use with steam. I started ironing and it started leaking badly.
I tried to trace my purchase to contact the seller, but Ebay's system is not very good, and took me over 2 hours to find it,. only to see that the seller is no longer with Ebay. Tried to pass message to Ebay, hopeless. Tried to phone, another problem. Used the automatic service, it took a long time until the machine got on to it. Only to inform that items bought over 3 months can't be returned or refunded!
It's not right that I have to pay for repairs. The iron has a guarantee, but obviously is not valid now.
Any comments please? I have been with Ebay since it started, and I see now a decline in the service, which is sad. But the main thing is I need to solve this problem.
If you paid via Paypal you may have some success raising a Not as Described case there.
Our usual advice in these situations is to go to Trading Standards via Citizens Advice but as you say the seller is no longer active this may not be possible.
Some buyers have had their Paypal claims accepted even though it is suppsed to be for items not as described on receipt so you ave nothng to lose but the P&P to return the iron, unless you sign up to their Returns on us scheme first.
