I want to list my old laptop on ebay but am worried about how to post it, because I am always being asked at the Post Office, 'Are there any batteries in the parcel?'. So I assume there will be a problem posting it.

Batteries are allowed, as long as they're installed in the appliance being posted.
I was going to remind you to use Royal Mail special delivery, but as you're currently selling a £950 item for delivery by economy delivery perhaps you're relaxed about not having postal insurance?
