I have had to pay an extra £3.50 to get my item from the post office because the seller sent it as a large letter despite charging me £3.65 P+P how do I get my £.50 back?

You can't. The P&P is for Postage and Packaging. Sellers are within their Rights to charge a wee bit extra. Petrol etc.

Once you've paid it there is no way to force the seller to repay you.

You should have sent a picture of the underpayment card and if the seller wouldnt pay the charge leave the item to be returned and open a not received case for a refund.
