Import Charges

Why are Ebay import charges to New Zealand so wrong.

we dont get charged GST (VAT) or import charges for anything under NZ$1000 including postage. so why when I want to buy some items for less that NZ$50 the  ebay international tracking and import charges get added and they are not even required..

totally stopped me from buying anything from sellers who use this option, as its just so un fair.... where are these supposed import charges going? NZ govt are not collecting them if its under $1000

What makes it worse, if I buy from most UK sellers they wont take off the 20% VAT so there is that, plus import charges makes it totally not worth doing buisness via ebay anymore..

as an example I bought an item from a shop in Australia, not only did they take off the GST (VAT) I didnt have to pay any import charges...

EBAY sort out your international tracking and import charges as it doesnt apply correctly and your sellers are missing out on buyers...

New Zealand: Goods and Services Tax (GST) applies to goods imported by consumers into New Zealand

  • Orders up to NZ $1,000: From 1 December 2019, if an item is located outside New Zealand and the buyer selects a delivery address in New Zealand, eBay will add GST to the order total at checkout. The seller receives their usual payment for the order value (item price + postage), and eBay remits the GST value to the NZ Inland Revenue Department (IRD). Sellers need to include the following tax details and customs code on the package:
    eBay's IRD #126-101-678 Code: PAID
  • Orders over NZ $1,000: eBay does not collect GST on orders over NZ $1,000 as this is generally collected at the New Zealand border
