Fed up with increasing Ebay intereference

You used to be able to simply list stuff to sell. Icreasingly Ebay are puttingf hurdles into the posting process, charging more for this and that and threatening to send your item into obscurity if you don't comply.  Looks like it's time to look for another platform. NOTHING is straight-forward anymore, the commercial world is out to s * * * w you at every turn.

I list things on eBay from time to time and I use a red computery thing which sits on a table.  I would not trust a phone - for example - with its limits and tiny writing. 

I list what I want to appear using "advanced listing".  I would not add "offers" to a "BIN" as if I were prepared to take less I would put a lower BIN.  I set the postage that I want or - more usually - make it post included.  EBay does not set postage as far as I know. The seller has to do that.  The seller has to incorporate a suitable method of posting according to value [and pay for it]

Unless you have some very strange arrangement with eBay then you can - with a little effort - list exactly what you want. EBay does not interfere with live listings to add things; they may remove listings that are non-compliant of course.

Well that's what I'm doing i.e. Not selecting 'Accept Offers' on BIN items and after about 7 days Ebay are changing it.
I'll have look at Advanced Listing and see if that can make a difference. Cheers

Can you explain what hurdles eBay are placing as regards postage, charging more (sellers set the prices, not eBay which is a selling platform), and how eBay have threatened to 'send your item into obscurity'.

I'll be honest and admit I haven't a clue how this community works or what I'm replaying to !! 😞

The one thing that's annoying me at present is that after few days they alter my items to 'Accept offers'. If I'd wanted that I would have chosen it when setting up the item. Is there a way to stop that happening?
The other thing I would like, is to retain the old style of listing - Posted/Buyer FB/Seller FB - rather than having to change it each time.

eBay add Best Offer to a listing automatically unless you use the Advance listing form.

That is the nature of business.

eBay have had to deal with fraudsters & have to find new ways to stop them & get their fees.

Maybe but if there's an option to accept offers in the beginning and you choose not to select it, why does Ebay have to interfere? Why don't we just list any item we have to sell and allow Ebay to choose the T&Cs? We pay enough for the service, just leave us to get on with it.!

Hear hear! You can - to a degree - mould eBay to your wishes. It takes a bit of time and possibly skill

It would help if you explained the postage problems. It is simple enough, if ebay are suggesting postage cost ignore it, they are usually wrong, only you have details of weight and size.

As far as price increases the only one in recent times has been sub-title increased from £1 to £2. As this is a service that is easy not to use, the Title has a lot more room now than when I first used ebay.

Charging 10% on Postage has been in force so long it can hardly be classed as new.

Sorry, by posting process, i meant adding an item for sales not the actual mailing costs. I always choose the free postage option. Cheers.

 The option to "add offer" can be deselected [if you follow me] in "advanced listings" and never appears again for me.

I do that when starting the item as BIN and after about 7 days I get an email saying my item has been changed to accept offers which I immediately change back. I find it b****y annoying I must say. The other thing that disappoints me is the growing habit of not leaving FB because it will lead to overly negative ratings, not that I get negative ratings of course !

I am sure if it was your business you would want members to abide by the rules

They didn't used to change the 'Accept Offers' option after a few days, so they have changed the terms not me. As I said, if I wanted to accept offers, that is the option I would have chosen when posting the listing. Likewise with the offer to gradually reduce the price. I have also been declining that and so far that hasn't been changed. It's true that currently, unfortunately, they're the only practical place to sell.

The reality is, that they've become a pain in the butt and they can do it because they're a virtual monopoly. What the point of making something an option when posting and then enforcing change after a few days? As for them being a business, unfortunately there is no effective competition, otherwise they would change their dictatorial behaviour.

I have never had a listing changed by eBay

I do not sell using a phone or app.......I only ever use a web browser using the advanced listing option

I make sure not to add any paid for options

I make sure I'm not subscribed to any eBay selling tools

I do not offer Click & Collect or Global Shipping

My fees are substantially less than they were 20 years ago...or even 10 years ago

Well as far as I'm aware, I don't do any of those things either - just post an individual item at a price, with postage paid. I decline all offers to amend my sale but after a few days, the item is always changed to accept offers - they do message to tell you ! I guess I'll just have to live with it because, as I say, there's no practical alternative site.

It's the advanced listing option that makes all the difference to the control you have over your listings. Ebay market it as if it's just for businesses, ignore that and use it.
