This question is asked so often.
In theory, eBay states that buyers must return items in the condition received. In theory, it says that sellers can deduct part of the refund for any damage caused.
In practice, numerous sellers have told us that eBay ignored everything they said, and enforced a full refund.
This is what one selelr told us that eBay had replied: "EAs we didn't see the original item that you sent to the buyer and we didn't see the item the buyer returned to you, we are not in a position to take sides in these situations and verify who has the valid complaint". EBay's idea of not taking sides was to make the seller refund the buyer!
All you can do, if you wish, is to appeal the case. Good luck!
