Newbie to selling so help with a question would be appreciated 

if someone has made a bid on my item and they are the only bidder by closing date - do they have to make payment or can they walk away from the sale?

They are supposed to make payment but cannot be forced to.

If they dont pay after 4 days on day 5 cancel the sale using "Buyer hasn't Paid" and you will get your selling fee credited and the buyer will receive a strike, 2 dtrikes and buyers are unable to buy from many sellers.

If buyer "walks away" without paying then after 4 days you cancel the sale using reason, buyer did not pay and they get an Unpaid Strike. Two strikes and they will find it difficult to waste oher members time as they can be blocked. No one can force a buyer to pay.

Most buyers pay but there are always some who enjoy ruining seller's auctions.
