Answers for those Frequently Asked Questions (Check before you post!)

What is a clue?
The clue is the one word or phrase that you see on the Treasure Hunt landing page: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/treasurehunt/

This will be something like ‘Mince Pie’ or ‘Holly.’ This clue is good for the whole day and regardless of whether there is one prize up for grabs, or dozens, the clue remains the same for the duration of the day.

Obviously this means that on days when there are multiple prizes, there are multiple answers to just the one clue.

What is a Hint?
A hint complements the Clue and can also be found on the Competition Landing page: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/treasurehunt/

A hint can be used to illuminate a clue and lead you to one or perhaps several prizes. Hints will also be cryptic or oblique.

What if I can’t see anything on the Competition Homepage?
This will not apply to the majority of our users. The content of the Competition Landing page is served up using a technique that might mean you cannot view it if you have certain types of pop-up blockers. You may need to adjust your settings in order to view the content of the page.

How do I solve the puzzle?
To solve the puzzle using the Clue, you need to employ your guile, cunning, wit and wisdom. Sometimes it will be a straight word association (such as Tower of London – Raven), sometimes we will use anagrams, puns, or oblique references. You may also need to employ lateral thinking, pop culture, literary and historical knowledge.

You can find a full list of previous solutions here to assist you and help you understand how the clue-setter’s mind is working: http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jsp?forum=2005&thread=200115198&modified=1102508350210

Will eBay tell me the answers to the puzzle?
We will periodically update the solutions thread here (http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jsp?forum=2005&thread=200115198&modified=1102508350210).

When do you update the Clues and Hints?
The Clue is updated daily at about midnight. The hints will be updated throughout the day.

Will eBay tell me when an Item is listed?
No. It adds to the fun if you don’t know when the Prize Item is listed. Sometimes the clue will have a reference to the time a prize listing goes live.

Will eBay tell me when the prize has been won?
Not always. Certainly we won’t often be able to tell you immediately because we need to verify the eligibility of the winner.

How will I know I have found the winning listing?
It will be obvious to you when you have found the winning listing. It will be clearly marked and it will reinforce our message that YOU DO NOT NEED TO PAY. No winning listing will use the Immediate Payment feature.

Can I post screen-grabs or the Winning Item location on the Discussion Boards?
No. To protect the Prize Listings, please do not post the actual winning listings on the Discussion Board. If you do post it, it will be removed.

If a prize isn’t found, does it rollover to the next day?
No. An item stays live until midnight on the day it is listed. Then it will be removed from the site.

I won a prize and haven't heard from eBay yet, what do I do?
Don't worry if you miss the call from eBay or their representatives after finding the treasure, we will keep trying to call until we have contacted you, but please remember to make sure your contact details are up to date in My Ebay.

We are trying to contact winners as quickly as possible, indeed a number of winners have already received their prizes, but please remember that it may take up to three working days for us to call after you have won the prize"
