just been a done the tesco shop
two things of note today
they have started doing self scanning on trolleys - big thing by door, trolleys have holders screwed on the handles
and the other, more upsetting was that they have taken the 2 for a £ off the doughnuts 😞
other small price rises have been noted
one of the home shoppers was saying the manager was making bakers put flour on all the bread rolls instead of just the scotch ones - everyone was moaning about that

We have had scan and shop for ages, and its really popular, I have just spent the morning putting loads of prices down,
not me personally but the labels. Prices go up and down all the time a lot of it depends on what others are charging, its a real pain and keeps us really busy.
Definitely give scan and shop a go much quicker than queuing at a till.

Shame about the donuts I am sure it will be back,
Did you notice the mince pies in the bakery ?

It is getting more expensive than Asda for the things I buy but I do go to Tesco sometimes as it's convenient. Shame about the donuts! lol

The prices of some things do seem higher, so I just try to make use of offers when I can on items I buy regularly.
I love scan and shop and always do it now at Tesco. However, if I have distractions, like my daughter shopping with me, I have to be really careful!
Last week she passed me a multi-pack of walkers crisps, and after scanning it I noticed the bag was ripped open & had a bit of tape on it. She went back for another bag, and put it in the trolley.
At the checkout they did the random trolley check - they scan 8 items - and the crisps were not identical to the ones scanned! They were "extra fill" ones. Genuine mistake. Everything had to be scanned again!
Another problem I encountered was even more *potentially* problematic. At Tesco I scan the item and put it in the bag in the trolley as I go round. When I went to France on holiday, I was in the supermarket getting a few bits and I inadvertently put the item straight in my bag! Luckily my OH spotted it before the staff did!!

Well I can see the point of scan and shop as it will save me time, scan, pack, pay and go instead of load in trolley, queue up, unload trolley, pack up, pay and go. The paying should be quicker as well.
Never, ever use the self checkout - not until I get a sizeable discount for doing everything myself.

I will stick to using the traditional checkout - I prefer to keep people employed even if it is a bit slower...

That sounds like something "safeway" used to do years ago (& I mean a LOT of years age) I could never understand why other supermarkets ever did it, it was so handy & timesaving.
(I don't EVER shop at tesco )
Our sainsburys is having a lot of building work done to extended it into a superstore & they have loads of self service check outs now ............ they scare me so I still queue

I rarely go I get it delivered but I'd never do it myself. I'd be sure to do it wrong and if I made an innocent mistake I'd feel so guilty and look guilty and the whole idea brings me out in a cold sweat!!!

safeway did it about 20 years ago CK
i know because kirsty was sitting in the trolley as i did my shopping
and my self scanner bill was over £600
because she scanned my bag of coffee dozens & dozens of times

There is a good sized Sainsburys on our local high street. They have loads of self service and a few manned tills of which I have never seen more that 3 in use. Odd thing is there are queues at the manned tills, often 6 deep, and vacant self service tills. It appears that their average shopper is an older person who wants a chat or Mum with kids who likes the idea of somebody scanning and packing whilst she rides herd and they just don't like self service. Me? - it's quicker to walk back to car, drive the half mile to Tesco and then home(and cheaper).

i think its cos we dont like being told 'unexpected item in bagging area'
cashiers are friendlier, i only use self scan if ive less than 12 items, no veg and there is a visible staff member to sort out the issues that always arise
