I would agree normally especially today with what has been on the news, but you can see by the dogs body language the little one is OK, & in no danger. The key is knowing the signs & never leaving your child alone with ANY animal, things can happen in an instant!

Cute piccie but I agree with what has been said.  I don't think that you should ever leave pets alone with any child.

That's unrealistic though.  If any family has a dog (and millions have) you can't keep a dog and a child in seperate rooms everytime you go to the loo,  go in the kitchen or  answer the door.  It's just not possible.  It's a bit like saying people shouldn't drive cars, they're dangerous.  The wrong car in the wrong hands is obviously dangerous but we don't just ban all cars!

If you look at the pic you can see the little one is staring into the dogs eyes, something you would never do with a strange dog , this dog knows this family & or the baby& is quite happy to return the gaze with no sign of being uncomfortable with it! A well integrated family dog with no signs of aggression or jealousy .

It is really about being sensible and careful.

Many people have pets and then go on to have babies ....this does mean that they should automatically have to get rid of the pets due to safety issues with the baby.

Sensible parents will ensure that the pet is introduced carefully to the baby and of course is not left alone with them . Obviously the baby and the dog in the photo are in the presence of the photographer ....the baby does not seem to be in danger.

Although it is true that parents must always be aware of the possibility of a dog attacking a child it is not an everyday occurrence and as long as parents are vigilant there is no need to get rid of the family pet or to imagine that every dog wishes to attack a child ...its just not so.

The events in the news recently have not been fully disclosed but it would seem that the animal in question was possibly not the breed that most parents would choose to have in their home when they had a young child as it is actually considered to be a dangerous breed. It is very very sad ......
