Two of my children live in London, & I have learnt by experience to disguise any birthday cards or pressies...sad, but true

A while back, our postman delivered our neighbours post to us instead of them. I'd like to know where he delivered our post to that day. If he delivered it to the neighbours on the other side, I've no doubt that they would have binned it instead of letting us have it.

I am told that they end up in a huge warehouse in Belfast.
I have learned that it pays to be "stroppy" when calling at our local parcels office, and insist that they really look through ALL the packages. They have a series of labelled shelves, and when parcels/packages aren't delivered they are supposed to be put on the appropriate shelf. Often however they are just put anywhere, so a quick glance at the labelled shelf shows nothing.
They really annoyed me early last week - usual postie is brilliant, but we had obviously got a relief/temporary bod. She rang the doorbell, moaned like heck when I asked over the intercom for her id. I was stuck in bed, unable to move, but when I opened the door she refused to come in to the house and give me the post - because I couldn't get to the door to her she refused to leave it, even the letters that she could put through the letterbox. She wouldn't leave me a card either, so "him indoors" had to argue with them when he went to collect it.
They are only supposed to keep things for a limited time, but when they really have a good look they have been known to find things that went awol 6 months before!
I have had ebay stuff returned to me - the buyer paid up for it to be re-sent only to have it return to me again. Once again he paid the postage for it to be sent a third time, and it finally got there.

Hopefully they will sort all these problems out now they have been bought out. hah!

We can but dream about Royal Mail getting things sorted. We received a Christmas card from a family friend. When it came through the door, it looked as if it had been chewed by a dog.

I doubt it!
If you have a proof of posting then give the PO the information, they have to act on it after a certain amount of time. Many years ago I sent a gold lighter to be repaired, stupidly I put it in a normal envelope (before bubble envelopes) but did tape it. It didn't reach it's destination so I contacted the PO. They found it on the ground tucked in by some parcels outside of the envelope... luck was on my side that day.
There are Christmas temp posties during this period too so they aren't always au fait with what they have to do. Then if you live in London there's a lot of nicking going on but how the PO stops that is anyone's guess as they've not solved the problem yet.

i would never post anything without my house number and postcode on the back and have never had anything go missing .
not ebay family of anything. and have had a few returned to me.but as previous poster said i do disguise birthday cards, also when buying i have only ever had one parcel go missing as the address lable came of and stuck on someone elses parcel what was then given to me.so i then redirected to the proper person.i contacted the ebay seller and explained but she never put return address on.she then resent with address lable bearly stuck on again with no return address.you just can not help some people.
i also think putting return address on stops alot of false accusations of item.not recieved

We've had loads of things not arrive, both here and things we've sent, over the years.
We come under the RM postcode (Romford) which, apparently, has a quarter of its
post/parcels etc go missing, some of which are no doubt nicked.
However, I can't complain at the postie we have now, he's brilliant, always taking care
where to put parcels if we aren't in and delivering our post through the letterbox. I know
that sounds obvious but the previous one decided to deliver it through the cat flap
instead, didn't seem to notice a letterbox right in the middle of the door! I would have thought
being able to tell the difference between a catflap and letterbox was a fundamental requirement
of being a postie, but seems not!
Some of them are proper jobsworths, seeming unable or unwilling to recognise that some
people are elderly, unable to get to the door quickly or whatever. I understand that it isn't nice
being snapped at by vicious dogs and even people, but doing a job like that requires the
occasional little extra on top of normal service.
We've had vouchers, parcels, letters, allsorts go missing and we now ask people if they don't
mind sending things to hubby's business as they seem to get there.
