Sauce - edible, not the Sid James kind

I have made a mushroom sauce - white sauce with mushrooms in it - but

as I didn't have any normal flour, only wholemeal or matzo, I used matzo

The sauce looks good - amazingly smooth - but, after I poured it onto the pork creation, I tasted it

Am I imagining it, or will folks think I am serving meat with milk pudding on it ??

Matzo flour - it should make an ok sauce shouldn't it?

Please say yes!!!!

ooooo I don't know wizzi, I've never used Matzo flour.

OH once roasted a chicken in milk as I'd left a milk bottle out and said measure that much liquid and he thought I meant milk not water:^O the gravy was divine though, so I wouldn't worry, maybe add a stock cube.

We do a milk gravy in the US. One is with breakfast sausages crumbled in and served on our biscuits(scones). I also like this with saurkraut too. And can be served on bread in a pinch. And another is with fried chicken. YUM Also we do a chipped beef too with a white sauce or you can use pieces of cooked chicken or turkey. Serve this over toast or rice.

One of my aunts used to soak fish in milk before cooking it. She would soak in the milk and then dip in egg and either cornmeal or cornflakes and then fry. YUM

Life is too short so enjoy it while you can!

Is matzo low in gluten? If it is the globbing won't work to make a sauce thicken. I know all the technical terms 🙂

Pat, we used to cook finnon haddock in milk and make the parsley sauce out of the liquid, that was lovely too.

I shouldn't be typing on here now, It's making me drool, I'm so hungry and OH won't be home for two hours:_|

The sauce did thicken, Huggles, beautifully & smoothly, though not the 'silky' smoothness of cornflour

Though I say so myself, it was delicious - & there wasn't a scrap left so the family enjoyed it!

I fried diced pork, leeks & mushrooms & was then going to add a bought pour over mushroom sauce but there wasn't one in the cupboard (we are infested with marauding young adults 😐 ) so decided to improvise

With the sauce I stirred in parboiled (parmicrowaved!!) broccoli, fresh peas, & green beans

I must say that what I made was in the end, with Cap'n's help, more delicious than the jar stuff so that's another ready made thing dispensed with!!!!

Served it with brown rice - otherwise the meal would have been too pale :^O

I know you've tested it now and it came out fine but just wanted to say that Matzo flour is made from finely ground wheat so no probs with it acting as a thickening agent, as you discovered! 😄
