SLEEP WELL tips

Any tips for a good night's sleep??? I dont drink after 7pm to avoid the need to get up in the middle of the night. I always manage to drift off to sleep well enough by reading a book but nearly always manage to wake up during the night and then I struggle to get back to sleep. Any helpful hints and tips gratefully received

SLEEP WELL tips

3 days a week I get up at 2am to start work at 3am and I usually go to sleep at about 10pm so by the time Saturday comes I am shattered being a lady of a certain age I should have more sleep really, Weekends I usually wake at 2am thinking I should be getting up then it takes me a couple of hours to nod off again. So my sleep pattern is rubbish really.  I get hot flushes, day and night so that doesn't help either, so I just tend to get sleep when I can and try not to worry about it which only makes it worse, a warm shower and hot chocolate usually works when I am not working.

SLEEP WELL tips

I get a humming sound in one ear, so to get to sleep I have a radio with headphones, I set the sleep button for 30mins and put in one headphone in the ear that's not on the pillow. I never get to the 30mins!!!!! I use it too if I wake in the middle of the night, it's the only way I can get back to sleep. I don't disturb the OH either. I have it set for radio4extra or radio4 which is more boring, this way if they drone on I still get to sleep.

SLEEP WELL tips

I don't know how lucky I am !  My head touches the pillow about midnight and I'm gone.  I stagger out for a wee about two am and again about 6 or 7 but hardly remember it.  I surface between 8 and 8.30, but I could go back to sleep if I wouldn't feel so guilty. Smiley Embarassed

SLEEP WELL tips

Forgot to say, hubby gets up at 5am. His alarm goes off, he puts the light on while he gets washed and dressed, then he brings me a cup of tea and puts the light on again at some point but I never hear any of this.  The tea is  always stone cold when I wake up.  Smiley Sad

Same here, Merc! I think I could read every tip there is and sleep would still elude me. So nice to know there are lots of us on here in the same boat, though, at least we can support each other Smiley Happy

SLEEP WELL tips

Just wish I could get to sleep I wouldn't be too bad.  My problem is that I have that many things going on in my head and my head just doesn't want to sleep.  We've been out for the day today and I'm shattered but that doesn't mean that I will get to sleep easily tonight.

SLEEP WELL tips

My mum's just come up with a suggestion.  Try a turkey sandwich.  More often than not, it helps my mum.  Another suggestion is a banana and a digestive biscuit.  Don't know these tips help though but it may be worth a try.

SLEEP WELL tips

Sometimes getting to sleep is a problem for me.

I've found that if I'm not asleep within 30 - 40 minutes, it's best to get up and go downstairs. I have a drink of hot chocolateo , take a couple of paracetomols, have a bit of a read of my book. After 20 - 30 minutes I go back to bed and do usually drop off quite easily.

Also if I can't sleep I try not to keep looking at the time while I'm in bed, if I have to get up for work at a certain time then the diminishing sleep time becomes a worry, which doesn't help.

Sometimes I can't sleep and don't think to get up, just surely I must fall asleep soon. Or it's so late, I don't want it to be another 30 minutes before I'm even trying to sleep.

But I really should follow my own advice, as it tends to work for me Cat LOL

SLEEP WELL tips

avoid  alcohol and cafiene drinks

lettuce is a good sleep food, in a sandwich if  hunger wakes you too

i have ways of making my brain tired  by making my eyes tired

that only works with the swap-make line  3  games,  nothing  where you have to think,

you are trying to shut your brain off thinking and over thinking

i used to have  world service on low, still sometimes do if i am alone for the night

or an audio book ive heard many times , you dont need to follow the story cloely and so my brain shuts off

sometimes if i have worries about stuff i have to make myself sleep

so will reason  that

a,  i cant do anything til  morning

b,  i'll be no use to anyone if  i am too  tired in the morning

c,  or  say  just  go to sleep you dozy cow .  lol  🙂

dreams have troubledd me more  lately, getting back to sleep after them can be hard

check  what medication you are on and if you are taking them at the correct time of day

SLEEP WELL tips

oh yes audio books are good too, I never got to the end of chapter.

I fall asleep quite quickly really, I only use the radio to get rid of the humming in me ear'ole which stops me falling asleep....does that make sense!!

they say you should have a little bit of supper though don't they? We used to have toast at 10pm when I lived at home as a child.

SLEEP WELL tips

I have started to have a little trouble sleeping, but i think me getting stressed so much just makes me tired and i sleep. I dream especially now on my pills and i can feel like i have been taking an active part in a full length feature film. Last night was bad, not a vary nice dream either very strange.... I used to sleep in the afternoon but try not too now as i dont work in the evening any more and also it stops me sleeping so well at night.   Sleep is a funny thing when you think about it.Smiley Happy

SLEEP WELL tips

don't by an LED alarm clock, ours lit up the room like a lighthouse!!! and you got in the habit of looking at the **bleep** thing all the time, if I woke up I'd look at the time.

I bought a cheap £1.99 old fashioned alarm clock from A*da and it's perfect
