I have suffered terribly from hot flushes today its driving me nuts, I have heard cutting out dairy might help, also alcohol, but I very rarely drink so that won't make a difference. I don't want to do HRT at the moment because of the side effects and there are no other problems.

I've tried Black Cohosh, but my nurse said to try Sage instead, as the Cohosh can damage the liver. I get mine from a company in Guernsey (don't think I'm allowed to advertise the company, am I? ) But there are health shops in most towns that sell them as well. Both of these are herbal tablets. I certainly don't want to go on HRT

Thanks Carol, somone did mention the black cohosh but she couldn't remember where to get it from, Is the sage the same as the herb only that is the one herb I cannot stand, however if it is in tablet form you might not be able to taste it eh!

Yes the sage is in tablet form, Ed. I can always PM you the phone number and company if you like. Otherwise, H&B on the High Street for the Black Cohosh. I also have soya milk on cereals, and have 2 cups of herbal tea a day, as I don't think caffeine is very good for menopause symptoms.

Natural Progesterone cream might help. If you Google it, and also Google John Lee, Leslie Kenton and Progest you will find lots to read on it.
It is not made from mares wee like the maufactured chemical HRT and using it may mean that you can avoid using it. An old book now, but maybe worth a look is Leslie Kentons 'Passage to Power'. As well as the natural progesterone it also covers diet and supplements.

Sage is your best bet for hot flushes, but please go for a reputable brand, not one that is full of fillers - would recommend Vogel/Bioforce's Menosan which comes as tincture or tablets or Solgar's sage. Sage tea is very nice as well ( love the smell of sage ). Another good one or hot flushes and menopause/PMT in general is the often overlooked homeopathic remedy Sepia.

And with the black cohosh and the 'liver damage' tests....it becomes quite farcical once you find out who the main test subjects were! ( am in the health trade, I get to know all the gossip!!! )

oooh Ed you know i can sympathise. i have been on pills that have stopped my flushes but as for natural remedies. I would say Dairy cut that out as someone did say that was bad. And if you cut down sugar intake. i found this made them worse. ((())).
Bless you.

Thanks I have been just getting on with it, but it is getting difficult to sleep so I thought I might try something just to help me out overnight, I am not really one for pills and potions, but the soya milk and not eating dairy sounds good, I might give that a try, I might even loose weight as well. I have been looking on line for the sage tea and might try that, thanks for all your help ladies, says a very hot and sweaty Vic

I used Black Cohosh partly because it was recommended and I wanted to regulate things - I had one hot night flush which could have been due to a cold I had - and essentially sailed through the whole mularky without any other effects, problems, iffies ............... it was a breeze.
That said, different people respond to different remedies and I guess I was lucky that one worked for me. I don't think I took it for that long either - maybe not even the max 6 months that is often recommended.
