Does any of you doggy lovers know where I can buy :-

Allergy tablets or antihistamine tablets for my little mutt.

I wouldn't know if they are even manufactured so any information would be gratefully received.

I do know the vet is more likely to be of help but I would like to know if I can buy this type of thing over the counter first as vets bills are becoming rather a burden.

Vet once advised us that Piriton was perfectly safe for dogs - but I guess you could ask you vet especially if your dog is on any other tablets

Would advise going to vets in the first instance ......thereafter once you are confident in the medication you may be able to source more cheaply.

I ordered  food & drugs for our dog from MedicAnimal.com, as our dog aged & had special requirements

There are only certain over the counter items listed

You can search the site, & buy animal medication, but you are required to have a vet prescription

That way I was able to have my dogs requirements delivered, which suited me as the vet is in another town

I must say that the saving was not enormous - it was rather a question of convenience

I appreciate your info and advice.

The problem is on going with my dog, I have taken him to the vet several times and know the problem he has. It would just be easier and cheaper not to have to keep going back every time the poor little thing needs some relief.

I have been trying to identify which foods flare his condition up but not found it yet.

I will probably have to take him back if I can't help him myself. Worth a look though.

Yes, one of my dogs was once prescribed Piriton by the vet; a big  mark up in price though.

Why not ring the vet and speak to the nurse and ask her what dose of Piriton is safe for your dog, they won't charge for a phone call, then you can buy either a branded or un-branded pack of anti-histamines from the supermarket, chemist or on-line.  I give one of mine a homoeopathic anti histamine all summer long so you could ask a local homoeopath or pm me and I can give you details of the wonderful lady that I use who will send them to you by post once you have provided her with the details of your dogs condition.
