Clowns - sinister or funny

Personally I can take them or leave them, but my hubby hates them, can't watch them at all.

Same as you. Some are funny looking especially those that do children's parties but some are, as you say, quite sinister looking. I dont like the Pierrot clown

Remember - it takes 17 muscles to smile and 44 muscles to frown - SO KEEP SMILING 🙂

They don't bother me in the least but I'm not a fan of slap-stick anyway.

I like Pierrot & Columbine, & I don't mind clowns at all

I see them as somewhat symbolic of sadness, not evil

Clowns - sinister or funny

Clowns are comic performers who employ slapstick or similar types of physical humour, often in a pantomime style

A Clown is an artist or performer who pretends to be a fool or foolish

comic performer, as in a circus, theatrical production, or the like, who wears an outlandish costume and makeup and entertains by pantomiming common situations or actions in exaggerated or ridiculous fashion, by juggling or tumbling, etc.

a prankster; a practical joker

a person who acts like a clown; comedian; joker; buffoon; jester

All meanings of the word Clown, they are supposed to be funny, so why do people find them scary!

Clowns - sinister or funny

Maybe this is why........

Today’s clowns have white faces because the first clowns centuries ago would kill children that didn’t laugh and grind up their bones. During this process the clowns face would become white with bone dust. Eventually, clowns were forced to stop killing children, but the implied inducement to laugh that the white face represented remains.

My son hates them with a passion.

We had a local soft play area where all the kids had their parties, including a visit form a clown. He used to go to the toilet while the clown visited, and a couple of times he refused to go to parties .
We have talked about it and he even now doesn't know why!

One of my granddaughters has a phobia of clowns.  If she sees one at a fair or fete she just trembles and shakes all over.  She's never had any sort of incident to cause it and no one else in the family is bothered my them, so it's a puzzle why really. Smiley Indifferent
