Are black cats lucky or unlucky.
Just got this boy from a local shelter.
I wanted an older cat and he is 6 years old
The people at the shelter said that it is always the black ones that get overlooked.
His name was Liquorice when they took him in when his owner died.
I am not too keen on the name, and as he has never really been called that, I have renamed him Sooty.

Black cats were always supposed to be lucky, I don't know why it suddenly changed, so now some people think they're lucky and some people think they're unlucky. But having said that, it's a load of tosh anyway if you're not superstitious! I had a black cat for 16/17 years and nothing happened particularly good or bad!

He is lovely
I had a black cat called Monty. Got him from a cat shelter when he and his 2 brothers were about 6 weeks old. Sadly Monty passed away just over 2 years ago at the ripe old age of 17. I loved him to bits.
Can't really say whether they're lucky or unlucky to be honest, I just love putty tats

What a handsome boy, Sooty is definitely an improvement. 🙂
Having a black cat cross your path was always a lucky event, but for some reason over the last 10 years this seems to have reversed and now some silly people seem to believe the opposite. Shelters are sadly having a terrible time trying to rehome perfectly beautiful black cats because of it.
I still regard it as lucky to have one cross my path (as long as I do as I'm told first time of course lol!), which is handy as it happens many times a day in this house. We've been slaves to adopted 3 over the years, as far as I'm concerned theyve been very lucky and we've been lucky to have them. Theyve all been very intelligent and full of character.
Our present 2 a black mum and longhaired tabby daughter were adopted from a rescue, when the kitten was a very undersized 8 week old. She was an excellent mother, we never had an accident from day one and the kitten went from "runt" to a 3/4 size forest cat complete with long fur under her pads. 🙂

Must admit that I'm more of a dog lover but I'd never harm a cat or any other creature.

No unwanted pressies for me, (I hope) as he is an indoor cat.
A nice lady from the shelter brought him to me this afternoon,
He jumped out of the carrier, had a sniff around then hid under the chair.
and at the moment he is still there.
I am not going to hassle him, he will come out when he is ready.
Incidentally, the picture is from the shelter`s website.

A lucky and lovely cat. Black cats were always considered lucky in the UK. However with the advent of tinterweb we have been swamped by the USA who think they are unlucky and have managed to spread the idea through social media!

Hello
So sweet !!
I am not allowed to a have pets where I live
However I am still thinking of having a black cat that is for sure & trying to find my way around it !!!
Where I come from black cats are "unlucky" however I will always stop & stroke one as I think that they are so cool & have their own personality like us humans !!
I do love cats with a personality = cats with a mind of their own & also it is great Feng Shui to have a pet at home !!!

Just over a year ago I found a little black kitten at the side of a busy dual-carriageway. Never found
his owners despite great efforts to do so, vet thought he'd been thrown there. I've still got him, and
my ginger and tabby cats too. They are all lovely cats who I feel honoured to have. The little black
one is a real beauty, as they all are, he hugs me with his paws and purrs and purrs and purrs when
we cuddle him.
Your new little friend is very lucky to have you as his person, and I'm sure you will find you are also
lucky to have him.
My little black cat is completely black all over except for one white hair (yes, just the one!) and his little
pink tongue!

Sooty is still hiding under the chair. He has been out for a wander a few times, but then scurries back
As he is an older cat, it may take some time for him to get his bearings.

I think that when a pet enters their new home for the first time, it does take some time whilst they adjust to their new surroundings. I'm sure that Sooty will settle in soon.

Ahh, bless him. He'll come out of his shell in time I'm sure. I can't believe how our tabby cat
hid in his travelling basket for four days when we first had him - now he hates the sight of it!
Our ginger one was a teeny weeny kitten when we first had him and we thought we'd lost him
one day. We were so worried as he wasn't well and we had to make sure he got enough
fluids by syringing water into his little mouth every few hours. Eventually we found him, right
in the corner, under the lounge cabinet - it had all got too much for him and he'd hidden.
Had to coax him out with teeny bits of fish. When I first brought the little found black kitty
home, he spent all the time he could snuggled into the tabby cat who just looked after him.
