I was in fits of laughter a while back. A no-nonsence bloke pulled up outside our house in a black 4 X 4 while a woman went across the road to get some fish and chips. She was gone a full five minutes during which time this bloke had a poodle on his lap where they were both looking out of the window, with him talking to his dog the whole time - he didn't let up once, with this poodle looking into his face occasionally as if they were having a profound conversation. It certainly doesn't strike me as a "man's dog" and yet this bloke was talking so seriously to it, you'd think he was talking to another person. Ok, we say the odd few words to our animals occasionally , but not a five minute one-to-one! Or I didn't anyway!

We had three cats at one stage. Turning in one night my wife asked my to put out one of the cats. I told her I'd done it.
"You're wrong. One of the cats are on our bed." Baffled, I felt down. Sure enough, there was a cat - only thing was, it wasn't ours!!
I had to get dressed again, and gently carry this most docile puddytat back down the stairs, open the back door and put her out. It was a strange set up. Our cats were quite sociable animals, not in the least bit territorial, and used to allow this thing into our house via the catflap. I never did work out who it belonged to, but it was jet black and very well looked after.

I like all animals - except gerbils (a rat by any other name!). To walk the hills with and have fun with, a dog, but in one's twilight years, an adult cat who will curl up on your lap and love you unconditionally. They have a very calming effect when you've had a stressful day. Traditionally more women that men have cats. Daughter had a rabbit. The trouble is, to be perfectly honest, people might start off with all the good intentions in the world, but who ends up looking after it after two weeks? MUM! Tell me if I'm right!
