UK Community Update

Hi Everyone!

Today we launch the updated eBay community in the UK.

As you will have noticed, the eBay community looks different. We have launched the updated design of the community with a few new features:

  • Mobile experience enhanced
  • Reduced load time
  • Quicker navigation through the site

Of course, all your previous posts, messages and comments are still where they were before. The changes to the community are focused on the look and feel, to enhance your experience and allow mobile users to fully utilise the community, too.

If you have any questions about the new eBay community, feel free to ask below in this discussion board.

Did you find your solution? Help other members by marking your problem as solved. Simply click on "Accept as solution" for the answer that helped you.

Re: UK Community Update

I have been on Ebay for 20 years, mainly a buyer, but from time to time I have found the boards helpful, and input received more often than not constructive.

Stepping back & reconsidering this "re-design" which makes these forums so different to any other I can think of.

I thought about transferring the concept of the Ebay forums to another easier to navigate website, if anyone has the time expertise to devlop one.

"Off the wall" MSE does have a section not totally focused on Ebay, but maybe could be"enhanced" more constructively - have a look at at - maybe Martin Lewis mighrt be interested ?

Re: UK Community Update

Looks like Ebay are being selective in not posting all replies:  example:

scaniatcab (Community Member) posted a new reply in Community Updates on 20-02-2021 12:11 AM :

Probably did this new outlook as its harder to find the notes of the true issues of eBay Which eBay dont want anyone to hear or read about by community sellers/buyers .

eBay stopped listening to sellers years ago, and this newer page makes it hard to navigate site & puts the lid on things, another **bleep** re-write of a topic page which was perfect as it was, when are they going to relise, if there is nothing wrong with the sellers discusion boards leave them alone, IT DOES NOT NEED FIXING...as he says falling on DEAF ears..

Re: UK Community Update

This thread has only 82 replies and it's a complete shambles,  no matter what settings I change following a long thread now seems impossible.

Can we at least have a direct link back to "my ebay" so you can get out of here faster.

On the plus side it is a nice shade of red😎 Some of the new emoji's seem quite horrific though, the grinning ones remind me of a Stephen King novel/film.😆

Re: UK Community Update

Same here. If Pixie hadn't posted the link I would never have known Katie had set this up. It's in a previously dead space on the boards that there was no point visiting.

Previously for large scale changes posts have been added to each area of the discussion boards  with links to a main post for comments to be gathered. Not this time. Not that I blame Katie. The decision to implement the changes would have come from higher up, she's just been left to deal with the fall out.

Re: UK Community Update

Remember the old adage "If you can't convince them  --  confuse them"  and that is the name of the game here.

Some replies have said that the UK boards have been converted to the US format.   What this reminds me of is the paypal boards.   This mess has several of the same features. Difficult to find threads that I've replied to unless I get a notification that someone else replied.

Impossible to maintain a coherant conversation, develop or argue a point with more than one other person.

" Discussion" broken into a series of short, fragmented exchanges, which as more people reply, fragments again and again like a fractal.   Repeating and duplicating the same thing.

Re: UK Community Update

In other words, as a discussion, complaint, argument, abuse, off topic forum it has to all intents and purposes been rendered pointless and shut down.

As an answer forum it is no better because you have no idea as a newbie who might know what or who might give correct advice.

If eBay wanted to silence any critics they could have just closed it totally as I can see little chance of me disagreeing with you anymore because I swiftly lose interest in looking for a thread or need to get away from the blinding white light before I go blind.

Sad really, but at least I'll have more time to do other things be they on or off eBay as browsing and or answering has become too difficult to tolerate for any length of time.

Re: UK Community Update

The thing is, the reply is there, but you can only find it by scrolling, and scrolling, and scrolling through every post on the thread.  I'd give you the post number, but apparently in this infantilised new forum, we aren't allowed to trouble our pretty little heads with anything like NUMBERS.

I expect that they'll further improve it next week, and ban WORDS.  We'll just be allowed to  post little emoticons.

Re: UK Community Update

Yes, it maintains an illusion of there being Community Discussion Boards, while rendering any coherent discussion impossible.

With the contents of any thread with more than a few replies jumbled incomprehensibly, anything ebay doesn't want seen can be disappeared amongst the confusion.

Re: UK Community Update

I tried to use the quote facility yesterday .

It did not work and I kept getting a dropdown box saying I was flooding the board !

Re: UK Community Update

Has anyone tried to add a pic?

My best guess its unfinished as there is no option to locate the file - unless of course it is only for smartphones - which I haven't tried, and unlikely to.

Many many valid points on here, the most important is there is no proper index, or way of following a thread.

Searching for topics is also  a lottery - tried on one of my posts on the buyer forum which originally created quite a bit of debate - totally useless with stuff from the eller forum all jumbled up.

Its a real mess

Re: UK Community Update

I agree with most of the posts here the new format is hard to navigate and its difficult to follow. I did not respond earlier as I did not want to spend long here before pressing back on my browser.

I put a bookmark to "my ebay" on my Firefox toolbar it means I can bypass the poor layout/links on these pages.

Water, water, everywhere

And all the boards did shrink.

Nor any drop to drink.

Absolute awful change to have made. I was following some threads on the boards but have no idea where they are now. This white background actually hurts my eyes, trying to read this thread took me an age

Re: UK Community Update

I dont know .......

I don't know  , if you are reading this off a script , or whether  you are in possession  of some secret SUPERphone that actually does what you claim it does ....

Why ........  in God's name ,did anyone think smashing the forum  to bits , making it virtually UNUSABLE ,and trying to justify it the hoards of angry ebayers ; was an IMPROVEMENT !!!!

I can't work it out .......

You can ? Good , explain it to me , in reasonably straightforward  English,   making  full coherent sentences , using what ever logic they used , to come to the decision that this  was what was  required .
That this . above fixing all else that is broken , wrong , unusable , or just simply annoying with the site , was a priority ????
Is there some massive list of complaints on threads  in the forums that says I need this in my life? Point me in their direction
That ,I've  just bought the new Apple iPhone 12 at a massively inflated price because Kevin Bacon can't find any filmwork at the moment . and this ,is  the justification that validates my purchase ?
Perhaps we need a distraction from the elephant in the room of Managed Payments  and  stopping us from using the forum us a way of cutting down complaints ?
Or . is it the old Labour ploy  of waiting for the latest natural disaster to introduce their latest  tax wheeze . or their latest pet project results that proves its doing EXACTLY the opposite of what they said it would ,at the outset ?
I'm not kidding Kate ; I rarely complain directly to you , but ,it's an ABOMINATION ... and as OUR community liason , you need to take our complaints , NOT to the goon squad the designed this , lettting them trot out some justifying BS that this was needed  but to their boss's boss . telling them , how much this "improvement" is loathed , detested , and shows utter contempt about what we need to make life simpler on ebay .

NOT !
