Seller contact after purchase

A couple of weeks ago I purchased an item, and today the seller has sent me a message on WhatsApp telling me about their other items and feedback is appreciated.

are they allowed to use my personal phone number in this way?

Seller contact after purchase

They unequivocally shouldn’t be doing that. No ifs or buts and I’d personally be reporting them.

see the eBay user agreement where it dates you will NOT

  • use the contact information of other users for any purpose other than in relation to a specific eBay transaction on the eBay site (which includes using this information to send marketing materials directly to eBay users unless the user has given explicit consent to receiving these materials);

and they certainly shouldn’t be conducting this messaging off eBay (eBay has shop subscriptions that allow emails that showcase products to be sent out)

They shouldn't , but is it allowed?   I suppose they are asking you to look at their other items,  but where,  if not on eBay but on their actual shop site, it may be worth reporting, eBay may be concerned if this was leading to off eBay sales.

You can send them a message via eBay to ask them to please not to use this form of communication and to communicate only through eBay messages.

As for the leaving of feedback,  personally I wouldn't now leave any , unless of course the item received deserves a neg or neutral of course !

Thanks @tressygirl. I wasn’t sure if it is a breach of GDPR, or if they are allowed to use personal information to contact buyers post sale. I’ll try contact eBay directly and see what they say. I’m holding off giving feedback for now.

Seller contact after purchase

They can contact buyers post sale, many need to for example for contact details to collect an item after purchase and payment,  and sometimes couriers request email addresses or confirmation of a postcode,  so yes, post sale it is allowed,  but as above content can be reported after sale,  if it sounds like items  are being offered for sale that are not being listed on eBay.

Ball's in your court if you wish to report or leave it,  but I agree with the holding off with feedback for now.

Thank you, I thought as much! Definitely seems to be some sort of breach.
