Stopping sellers using Evri

I am sure there will be many like me who are bemused how Evri are still in business.  I have had delivery after delivery fail or arrive late and nothing gets done because sellers keep using them.

I just did a Trust pilot search on Evri UK their one star rating from from 830 reviews is 97% one star, thats not a typo 97% one star.  Everi.co.uk have 3069 reviews on there which are slightly better only 96% one star reviews.  To put this into actual numbers of the 830 reviews  805 were 1 star and of the 3069 reviews 2,946 were 1 star.

So of the 3874 total reviews 3751 were 1 star .  Obviously e-Bay say they can't do anything about it 'as it does not affect their revenue', so the buyers are the only ones who can do anything, by not purchasing items from sellers who ship with Evri.  Sadly that will be part of my check from now on, ship with Evri I will buy elsewhere.

Maybe check what delivery company they use or ask them if they will send by Royal mail before buying

Nice to see a voice of reason - checking with the seller BEFORE purchase, which courier they use (for confirmation if it's stated, or FYI if it's not denoted), and if they might be amenable to changing the courier, if the one they state does not suit, is the only sensible way to go. Simple Delivery is, it seems, anything but simple, but, ways to circumnavigate it, couldn't be more simple.

Understanding that for some sellers, changing the courier is just not possible, should help to mitigate any eventual disappointment. Some sellers have delivery contracts with a courier, which is for them convenient (parcels collected - especially convenient for those in rural locations), and economical (bulk payment deals/ special introductory rates). Some sellers just don't want to change to your preferred courier, because of negative experiences they have had with them, and that is more than fair. I've found more sellers to be amenable than not - just be polite, friendly, explain why you want to avoid a courier and which couriers you'd prefer, the ball is then in their court. When a seller has made an offer, but they use Royal Mail, I've said I'll happily pay full-price, if they are happy to use Evri, instead - two sellers, so far, have been happy to do that.

That said, I have been stung a few times; one guy, that was incredibly rude before purchase (it seems he didn't like my asking questions, one reply said "just buy it smeghead"), he told me he'd send the vinyl via Evri, then he sent it via the one courier I said I didn't want (Royal Mail), eliciting anxiety until it finally turned up - I only proceeded with the purchase because it was pretty rare, it seemed in good condition (it was), and his listing was cheapest - suffice to say, I did not look at his other listings and I did not leave feedback (I am loathe to leave negative feedback, as I don't want my profile tainted with red dots). Another time, it said Yodel 48 - I double-checked with them, and they still sent it via Royal Mail instead. No feedback left, also no repeat purchase - and that is where we have some power - repeat custom is killed stone-dead when a seller proves themselves to be untrustworthy. If they can't honour a simple thing like the courier they claim to be using, their lack of integrity will doubtless burn you in other ways if you entertain them again. I make sure to politely tell them why I will not be leaving feedback, or making a repeat purchase, too.

I really miss eBay how it was, and I wish it could go back, but I have accepted, that this hot mess is what we're stuck with, so, we just have to get creative with our problem-solving, is all, or, simply buy elsewhere.

Please tell me how!

As a Private Seller,  you could if you wish use your own postage / courier,  not Simple Delivery,  but your payout would be held for a minimum of 14 days.

Triggering an SD label marks the item as dispatched, but you would not be able to add your new tracking, but should a case for item not received be opened later,  you can enter the tracking  into the case details.

Unused SD labels are refunded to whoever pays for that label.

In other words, simple delivery isn't so simple to circumvent. The method you suggest is for the seller to use a different postage after the buyer is expecting Simple Delivery (usually Evri), which isn't really better than previously using Evri after advertising to use Royal mail.

In the past, I could set a list of options for the buyer to choose from, with the buyer paying the relevant postage. For example: Free collection in person, Courier A (3-5 days) £X, Courier B (2-3 days) £Y

I flat out refuse to buy from sellers that use evri. I always ASK the seller before buying. The problem is , sometimes , specially with stuff coming from abroad , you do not know what courier they will use once the parcel enters the uk. so a few evri parcels come trough which makes me very annoyed.

I have refused to buy many things over years on ebay just because they use evri. I have had horrible experiences with evri in the past , stolen parcers , opened parcels , deliveries miles away , etc.

I trully believe that whoever uses evri should loose sales and business. Shows they are not looking after their customers and only value cheapness.

I am proud to say , i have never used evri as a courier as I do care about whatever I sell and the people that buy something from me should be confident that they get their product.

Simple Delivery on ebay is a bit of an issue , it removes detailed custom delivery options. What ebay should do is remove evri as couriers.

obviously it's your prerogative what courier you use, but from my experience of over 1k sales and numerous purchases I can count on 2 hands the bad service that I have had and that's over all couriers, sales and purchases and my worst one has been Royal Mail. But also if someone asked me not to use them then I wouldn't

I have been on ebay since 2008 and always used royal mail.

In that time 2 parcels have been lost.

I used EVRI for 2 heavy parcels as they were cheapest and both got dropped and damaged.

So 100% fail for EVRI.

Having said that quite a lot of what I buy come by EVRI with no problems.

Maybe they are just careless with heavy items ?

while as a seller i am flexible who i use there are many buyers who penny pinch . if it goes to a flat or it is a terraced house i will always opt for royal mail to make sure it is not left where it can be stolen . but it has to be said where buyer have been given the option between royal mail or save a pound with evri - 9 out of 10 will go for evri .

Evri are unreliable in mid-Wales, parcels delayed for 8 days is usual,  if they haven't already lost the parcel or sent it back to the supplier. They managed to loose a £300+ delivery from Zooplus, they said it was delayed and it was actually lost but they failed to tell me. I ended up waiting 2 weeks and had to settle for a refund. I will not be buying from any supplier who use Evri in future.

The option may be true but I have never seen it. I have asked sellers in
the past to NOT send by Evri but,..they always do what they want.

I hate Evri and avoid them like the plague. Unfortunately sometimes I have no choice but to use them and after having stuff delayed or dumped on the doorstep if Evri is the only delivery option, I use click and collect. This used to be OK as at least it would,(eventually),be delivered and safe if it was delivered to the local Argos.

Now it seems Argos isn't an option anymore and you have to use a local shop, and instead of getting a code sent to pick up your a parcel, you now have to have to produce ID to get your parcel.

We don't all have photo ID and this is another nail in the coffin for buying on ebay.

Just to add, having recently looked into why Argos seemingly isn't an option for simple delivery C&C  I was wondering why I couldn't select Argos for this transaction as I was buying from a business. Turns out I was buying from a "private" seller with a shed load of stock, all new.

Yet another thing to look out for when buying on ebay!

Ebay are shooting themselves in the foot by continuing to support this despicable service.

I think the fact that there are 9 pages to date of discussion on this subject says that there are quite a few people with opinions on delivery with Evri.

I have just had a parcel disappear (as a buyer) from the local Evri depot - it didn't even get out for delivery.

After me chasing Evri for over a week - receiving standard scripted emails and finally receiving one confirming the item was 'lost'.

For me locally Evri are awful the neighbouring South Hams had an Evri police investigation after hundreds of parcels went missing. I have also had a few ok good deliveries from Evri but usually late. I have also had items delivered to different addresses with the delivered photo and also someone elses parcels (plural) delivered here on more than one occasion.

I can see people here defending Evri - they have no issues but we should have a right to choose the courier.

If sellers listed all couriers they are willing to work with with different charges listed it would make buying easier. We could just click on chosen courier. If our courier of choice is not listed then we have a choice not to buy.

As a buyer that's easier than having to contact the buyer before the sale - waiting for a reply and potentially be told 'no we only use Evri'.

It has put me off after buying on Ebay for donkeys years - Its getting to be a hassle. I don't want a refund - I want the item I have worked hard for to purchase.

I would happily pay more for my locally reliable courier.

I hold out hope that Ebay will see the light.

I also paid £5.50 for postage on the 'lost' item - a 1m piece of fabric? Not a huge parcel so surprised  Evri cost that much...

I recently had another parcel lost by Evri, a temu order. They often use evri but do always refund if the parcel is lost, damaged or left in a field ( yes all three have happened) .
A couple of weeks after my refund for the most recent lost parcel, it turned up with another delivery! That has never happened before.
