Ok so I paid £23 for what I thought was a replacement carburettor for a garden tool. What I received was a carburettor kit with cheap parts worth about £5. I did a return with a photo. The seller is now claiming that it's not the item they sent in the photo and I "must have mixed it up with another order". Please would I cancel the return the item and they will be contacting eBay to say there's been a mix up.
I am beside myself. What do I do? I can't phone eBay and the packaging seems to have a note inside saying something like, "Thanks for your order, Charles" but the seller's name is Rob. So the minute I send photos of the personal note I am scuppered because the seller will just say, "Oh she's mixed it up with someone else's order". But I haven't ordered anything remotely similar and I don't have parts like that lying around the house just to scam someone. I am a 59 year old woman who does a bit of gardening.
I was a bit suspicious when I opened the package and saw what they'd sent to be frank. But as a business seller they have better access to eBay customer services and they will get their story in before me.
They also seem to have updated the sale description to say that's its actually just a kit and not the carburettor itself but it definitely didn't look like that when I bought it. And even if I did make a genuine mistake I'm just trying to return what I actually received. I'm also looking at the auction and its now showing just small packets of filters and stuff and the pictures look nothing like the pictures in the original auction.
Are they also trying to get me to cancel the return because once I've done that I am also scuppered? Royal Mail are coming to collect it on Monday.
What do I do? HELP!

What was the description of the item you bought? Was it described as a 'replacment carburettor'? What does it say on the sales page? (the seller can't retro-actively change what is in your 'purchase history' so what it said on the listing when you *bought* the item will still be there)
If it was, then the item is 'not as described' and you should open a returns case on that basis.
Open a case *through ebay*, not just by contacting the seller.
Ebay will make the seller provide a returns label and once the seller has the item back, you will get a refund.
Don't close the returns case early, whatever the seller may say. Just stick with the ebay process, and it'll all work out.

Simply escalate the case to eBay on day 4.

Do not listen to the seller they are trying to trick you into closing the case.
The seller is saying your photo isn't of their item is a scare tactic.
The reality is returns are automated and the photo required to be added to open a case could be of anything.
You could add a photo of your cat and it wouldn't make any difference.o
If the seller provided an RM returns label, once it is scanned as delivered eBay should refund you automatically.
If you are worried use this link to get a call back from eBay.
And make sure to mention the seller is trying to get you to cancel the case.

I managed to get an eBay callback using the link a previous poster sent. They have made some notes and say that provided I return the item I should be ok as I am covered by the eBay money back guarantee. They did agree that lots of changes have been made to the sales post since I bought the item, the sales pictures in particular have changed a lot since I bought it
