Ebay insurance on bought items

For the buyer, what are the new advantages for them in the  imposition of eBay insurance on items.?

From what I have read, there seem to be no substantive change in buyers rights and protections.

the only change seems to be that now eBay is making money from the situation.

What imposition of ebay insurance?

If you mean the buyer protection fee you can see what ebay says it's for in the published guidance.

There is no additional benefits, personally I think it was eBays idea to implement it to nudge accounts that are clearly businesses that they should change to the correct one but all its done is anger private individuals that are selling off their unwanted goods and gave those businesses on private accounts slightly cheaper listings. They could have just created a reporting system that actually works and instead of copy and pasting sorry we cant be sure if this account is a business just use probability as they are not a court of law so don't need to be 100% sure.

I'm all ears if eBay want to give another reason but there is zero additional protection so its certainly not for that.

When you buy from a business, there are certain consumer rights that apply with 'distance selling' with regards to returns, refunds and so on.  eBay are trying to make out that the new BPF 'levels the playing field' and gives buyers the same rights when buying from a private seller as they would from a business seller.  However, we all know that the money back guarantee did the same job!  The BPF will cover any money that they have to pay out under the guarantee - the money which used to be covered by the private final value selling fees that eBay cancelled in their infinite wisdom!!

One of the problems that eBay may not have foreseen with all their publicity regarding the BPF is that they have attracted unscrupulous buyers whose sole objective is to exploit this BPF.  (The money back guarantee always existed, but under the radar of many).   Trustpilot has some real horror stories.

There isn't any change.

All that has happened is ebay have moved fees from seller side (and unknown to the customer) to buyer side.

ebay has always made money from 'the situation' if by situation you mean - their business model.

They have simply changed the model of their fees.

Exactly, they have found a way to charge buyers for something that they did for free before while ostensibly making it free to sell.

Ebay's guidance on the BPF makes it clear that it's entirely separate to the MBG.
