Payment is pending but seller sent item anyway and isn't communicating

I bought an item (private listing) but the payment was showing as pending. I caontacted the seller after a few days and she said that she has had a lot of trouble with this and asked if I would like to pay by direct paypal transaction to her or by a bank transfer. I wasn't happy with these but didn't respond immediately as I wanted to think about it. Some days later the item turned up in the post anyway. The payment is still showing as pending. I have contacted her about what to do and heard nothing. What should I do in this case?

It is really up to the seller to sort out at her end, perhaps she is a new seller and needs to claim the money.You were quite right not to pay by any other means, as you would not have any buyer protection through ebay, and a Bank Transfer cannot be reversed if things go wrong.

If you look at the payment in your Paypal account if there is the option to cancel, it means a problem with the email address the seller put on their listing, and after 30 day if not dealt with the money will come back to you.

You can use the cancel link, then you could contact the seller to pay in another way as you have got your purchase and presumably no problems.

Whatever the problem the seller will have it repeat unless it gets sorted out.

The seller must have included the wrong PayPal email address during the listing process (or it's the right one but contains a typo), so her buyers' payments are floating around in the ether with nowhere to go.

Tell her to go to her Sold transactions, and select 'sell similar' from the dropdown beside one of them, to bring it up in edit mode, and to scroll down the page to see what email addy she used. If it's a valid one, all she has to do is add it to her PayPal account, and all the associated payments will pop through.

If it's no longer valid, or contains a typo, she should cancel the affected Ebay transactions, which will reverse all the payments, and relist the items using the correct email address so that her buyers can buy again. Alternatively, if the buyers are able to cancel the pending payments, she could simply send you and them the correct email address so that you can send her a PayPal payment from your PayPal account.
