So, I've not used my ebay account for a few months, I log back in to do some shopping and find out thre is a committed purchase on a weird item that I wouldn't have purchased in my basket?
I can only assume my account was hacked so I changed the password and hopefully that's that issue sorted.
I've sent a message to the seller explaining what's happened and I've not heard back yet.
Has this happened to anyone before?
If you're totally sure no-one you know has used your account (who else knows your passwords...?), report the suspected hacking to Ebay (type 'hacked account' into the search box in Help & Contact, and follow the instructions).
Check your device for malware. Once checked and you know it's safe, change all your passwords again.
Accounts can usually only be hacked if you use a guessable password, or if you clicked on a link in a phishing email and so gave your password away. So I would advise you to do a general web search for 'staying safe online' so that this can't happen to you again.
The seller is likely to open an Unpaid Item case against you, to get the selling fee credited back to his Ebay account (selling fees are charged the second an item is bought or won, not when the buyer pays). If so, contact Ebay to see if you can get the resulting Unpaid Item strike removed from your account.
