THEY ARE GIVEN OUT FAR TO OFTEN AND EASILY, HER MAJESTY SHOULD GREATLY REDUCE THE AMOUT GIVEN AND MAKE THEM IMPORTANT AGAIN AS SO MANY GIVEN, FOR ME THEY ARE GETTING LIKE A BUS TICKET WITH NO OR LITTLE VALUE.

#2 tut tut...it's 16 years + since my husband got his in the New Years Honours although I must agree the Soldiers that are given award are nearly never mentioned in the News only the "Stars" ...we learnt about ours from a phone call on New Years Eve...

WHEN I HEARD THE NEWS THIS MORNING, McDOWELL BECAUSE HE WON A US GOLF OPEN, BRITISH AIRWAYS CHAIRMAN, WHY SHOULD THEY BE GIVEN A SPECIAL HONOUR.

ANNIE LENNOX FOR HER CHARITY WORK, SOLDIERS FOR PAYING A HUGE PRICE FOR THEIR COUNTRY YES BUT FOR BEING IN A CAREER OR PROFESSION FOR A LONG TIME IS AN HONOUR IN ITSELF AND TAKES AWAY FROM GENUINE HERO'S WHO SHOULD BE OBE, MBE, ETC;

No offence taken...I agree ! I think this time they have tried to give awards to communties rather than sports/celebs which is good just a pity they cant give everyone 5 mins of fame!
My husbands was that long ago now we only use it for official complaints letters or for getting hard to get autographs back 🙂

Is it actually her real scribble, or a nasty autopen from her trusty machine as used on Christmas cards each year? I would hope she would make a genuine mark for the worthy recipients of these honours.

#9 Nigel I honestly cant remember it was that long ago we didnt actually go to Buckingham Palace for my Husbands we went to the British Embassy in Belgium as thats where we was stationed at the time it was presented to him by the British Ambassador.
I tell you what though at the same time we got ours there were people getting theirs that were part of the underground movement during the war....some amazing stories...yet you never here of them on the news!!!
