would any of you,see a problem in writing and  asking a real mob mafia gangster for a autograph,i am considering doing it,but am unsure of the moral implications of it

It all comes down to your own likes, interests, etc, and not what others think. Not my cup of tea, but I would be interested to see any success you had.

It's not something I would collect but if you're ok with it, I can't see a problem. No different from the Kray's and they're very collectible.

Sure in the early days of this forum, someone wrote to a gangster who was in prision and got a reply + signed index cards/photos

There used to be a chap on Matt's Celebrity Hangout (the first proper UK internet forum for autograph collectors, not active for a long time, but looks like it is on it's way back) who collected Charles Manson autographs, letters, and personal items. He communicated with Manson by mail, and would exchange things Manson needed for things Manson made in prison, plus would buy stuff when it surfaced. If memory serves me correct, he traded it all to fund the purchase of a dream Harley Davidson.

It's back to personal preference,I've seen people auctioning letters from the Krays,some want Hitlers signature,and I seem to remember a discussion on the forum some time ago about Leslie Grantham having been jailed for murder.I've got a signed book from a former Alcatraz prisoner I met (not a major criminal mind you) some people will disagree but everyone collects something different,go for it and hope he only sends a signature!

I the past I have had successful replies from; Ronnie Biggs, Ian Brady, Charles Bronson (not the actor), Dave Courtney, 'Mad' Frankie Fraser, Reg Kray, Ronnie Kray, Carlton Leach, Eric Mason, Cass Pennant, Charlie Richardson, Eddie Richardson and Roy 'Pretty Boy' Shaw.

I did carefully consider the implications of giving my address to these fella's and worked out that the chance of adding such names to my collection out weighted the risk.

That's just my opinion and would not want to influence you in any way.

If you do go for it hope you get a good reply.
