Ex professional wrestler RAY ROBINSON  he fought during the big daddy days as just finished his story in paper back about his fight against cancer and his fighting days  What I did not know he lives in my village so popped down to his house and got a copy Ray was very happy to sign it  for me profits from the book are going to charity  great little read and great bloke to meet he's still got one hell of a hand shake,the sheriff was his fighting name

That's fantastic Richard. I used to go to some of the wrestling bouts at Wycombe Town Hall in the early 80s, but I probably just missed Ray's peak career. I saw the likes of Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks and many others, but I think the supporting bouts tended to be regional with just the bigger names touring the country. A lot like Mick McManus had already retired by then, but it was still good fun.

 

I did a search on Ray to get some more info after reading your post Richard, and if anyone is interested you can contact Ray directly for copies of the book -

He certainly sounds an interesting character, and the book looks a good read. I think that was an excellent in person Richard.
