very true, very nice photo!
I have to admit to not posting on here as often as i would like, but my time is limited.
I am aware that wheel does a good job in keeping out the rubbish from your collections, but unless you spend time making some proper comparisons, then as ai said before, all you are really doing is collecting signed photos, without knowing who they are really signed by.
If you have kept your ears and eyes open recently, you will by now know about Charlton Heston, Doris Day and Debbie Reynolds secreatarials, all of which have been bought and sold for years without hardly anyone realsing. And yet, if any one of us had done the research, we could have seen what they were.
These new ones are excellent examples of how the collector can easily get fooled, and they, i believe are simply the tip of the iceberg.
What really concerns me are the sellers who offer this stuff to the public witout any concern for what they may be. I am seeing an increasing number of 'dealers' offering photos signed by top end celebs, some of which even list them as multiples!
This is not good for the busines as a whole, and can only backfire on them sooner or later, or in eBays case, never!
In the main, common sese isall that is needed to realise that Angelina Jolie or Johhny Depp does not have time the time to not just sign, but also dedictae a photo to you personally! These people already have other people to wipe their backside for them, so i think answering mail to mere commoners like us is probably way beyond what they want to do.
There is no excuse for any dealer to be selling secs, as there is a multiude of ways and means (not just common sense) of checking these things out.
'If you have doubts don't buy it' we here that so many times, and its good advice, but a few 'dealers' need to remember that other saying 'if you have doubts, don't sell it' but then money often speaks louder than words!

The Debbie Reynolds secs would be worth looking at in further detail, as I know quite a few people have posted successes from her on the old version of this forum, and this current forum, myself and Daz included. Having just read the article at isitreal, it makes for interesting reading and shows how subtle the difference can be between the secs and real signatures to the average eye.
Would you be adverse to looking at her sigs in a separate thread Daz? I would certainly like to know if my UK via venue reply is real or not.

Well done I hope it's ok .

Having looked at the info on isitreal, its very easy to tell the difference, even though they look the same at first glance.
The real and the sec are very close in this instance, but the tell tale signs, as clearly stated on the site, make it very easy for anyone to spot the difference.
The point here is that they are so much the same, but look carfuly, study them, make the comparisons, and hey presto, all of a sudden we have not a genuine TTM signed photo for the collection, but a piece of worthless junk!
As i said before, my real concern is where these items are being sold by others who claim to know what they are doing, but are blinded by the cash rewards.

So i assume that you have now changed your mind?
This is what autograph collecting is all about, there is much more to it than simply putting together the biggest collection!
20-05-2011 11:06 AM
Well mate, i hope it is genuine and congrats to you if it is:)

yes garry i have, what confused me was the open is shown on isitreal, that needs correcting by rolf to avoid confusion,as debbie does use both the closed

Excellent points raised by all. I would like to think mine is real but it certainly is nearly the same as thehornets and differs from the IP posted. Could she have changed her signature over the years? Who knows. We must all be wary and not take things at face value.

These things can never be 100%, but there will always be other signs as well, and as i have said before, its all about comparison.
Last word on my next Autograph course, its sold out, so if you wanted to attend, you can't!
I will take names as reserves, as there is always the chance of someone dropping out.
Next one will be at the Autographica show in October in London.

Come over to paddyland someday, we have some nice hotels where you could host a show including the most bombed hotel in the world 🙂
22-05-2011 10:42 PM
isnt there one more bombed on the gaza strip?
22-05-2011 10:42 PM
Thats an excellent idea, and it has been considered. But i doubt it will ever happen as they also have the price of petrol etc to consider for the guests and staff, and the price of flights and transport for the first class loving people you all want to meet!
In addition, i have nothing to do with the running of the show any longer, as i disposed of my share some years ago.
