I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Have enjoyed some time today today writing a few requests. Am testing my local posties by writing to some people who sign well, sign fairly quickly, and I know the addresses to be good. I hope my concerns are unjustified. Seven requests written today - all entertainment based.
I am also embarking on a new era for my website. I have brought my entire site down for sometime to come. I have no desire to keep updating it while working on a long overdue replacement. I am using Ruby On Rails 3 and MySQL2 to build a new database driven website for my autographs, but plan to take it a lot further. The database functionality will give me much greater flexibility with what can be displayed, plus I am going to implement a login system and forum of my own design, and more. Probably at least 6 to 9 months before I am at that stage. 🙂 I am enjoying earning about ROR3/MySQL2 as I go along. Have made a healthy start, and have the core database relationships working on a test server running on my pc. Am currently working on the first few pages for display. When I have the key pages built, will then look to build the login security.

Thanks everyone. I have wanted to do something like this with my website for several years, but did not have the time to learn. Thankfully, I had to as part of my day job, so can now utilise my new skills in my own time as well. I want to build something that encompasses everything I need to manage/display my autograph collection (and possibly help others with this as well), and be part of a web community at the same time.

Good luck with the website, Nigel, I hope it works out for you. And good luck with the replies. Let's hope they make it through the Royal Mail.

Good luck on both counts Nigel. Would you like me to send you one of my duplicate autographs just to see if it turns up okay? Just a thought, maybe you would have to send me one of your SAE's with your handwriting on so it was a proper test?
