Issue a refund but I never received the money

I sold a pair of jeans that the buyer then returned but I never actually received the money for them. The money was being held by eBay. If I issue refund, does it just release that money that is being held or will I effectively be £50 down? I don't quite understand the process and why I was never paid my money. And advice appreciated.

If the buyer opens a return request and you get the item back, then you can refund via the case details, and will be credited a percentage of the selling fees.

Any return costs the seller money. You have to refund in full, so are out of pocket by the cost of original postage, but as part of the refund process you only refund what you received, ebay make up the difference by refunding the selling fee.

If buyer has opened a not as described case, you will also be out of pocket for the return postage as you have to supply a reply paid label.
