Without tracking, if buyer claims not received, you always have to refund.

I thought that would be the answer.
I purchased postage through eBay so was hoping I had some coverage / protection. I should have investigated more what seller protection included.
Royal Mail compensation is only to £20.
Potentially huge lesson learned.

I have been selling for over 20 years now and I send anything that sells for over £10 using a tracked service.
Buying your postage through Ebay doesn't really protect you at all.
I would advise using a tracked service - it's for your benefit, not the buyers.
Tracked 48 offers cover up to £75 and you also know if the buyer's claim is genuine.

If use ebay simple delivery (not packlink), then it is always a tracked service up to £750 compensation.
