'........instead of asking hundreds of millions of people to provide confidential data why not simply have a fraud team focusing on dodgy accounts selling high value items , why must 100% of people get inconvenienced because 1% of people are dodgy ?.....'

Because it's cheaper.

A 'fraud team' may have to employ human beings who need to be paid.

"instead of asking hundreds of millions of people to provide confidential data why not simply have a fraud team focusing on dodgy accounts selling high value items"

Because that wouldn't meet the requirements of 'Know Your Customer' under the money laundering regulations.

they claim to use real people based in USA to verify ID said a lady based in the Philippines

I was asked for my ID, I sent a scan of my passport, it verified it in minutes. There's no way a human was involved there. If you think about it, it would be a huge security risk having hundreds of humans verifying sellers.  That's how M&S, the Co-Op and Jaguar came unstuck. Cyber attackers target humans, they're the weakest link.

your experience is better than mine , i sent my driving licence and 48 hours later i got a reply asking me to send it again , maybe they think i should put the back of my driving licence although it has no relevance only the types of vehicle i can drive , the whole system is bad and system sucks , this is my experience ,

Google is not a safe place to store data, I know this from personal experience

I'd suggest that you don't have clue and cannot verify what you  posted.

Can you?

What is it that I don't have a clue to and cannot verify?

I quote, "There's no way a human was involved there.".

Yes, that's correct, that's what I wrote.

I sent the scan and literally in a couple of minutes I received an eBay message letting me know that it had passed their verification check.

The ones that appear to be forwarded for additional human verification seem to take days, weeks even, given what some other sellers are saying.

I'd suggest you go back to school and focus on English to be honest.

English is not everyones first language.

Hi everyone,

This discussion has gotten a bit heated. Please remember that, while it is fine to disagree with others, discussion should always remain friendly and respectful as required by the Community Guidelines.

Thank you for your cooperation.

In YOUR particular example. I can assure you that is not always the case.

How do you think leaks happen?

AI doesn't automatically scan your messages and set up an AI bank account so that it can funnel your money there.

Indeed! My apologies for my previous reply. I was in a bad mood at the time but it's still not an excuse.

Its ok we all have them.   When feeling like that its often better to walk away from the boards for a while x

I stopped selling after this mandate (which ebay issued just after a payment had been made to my account and which they now hold for ransom).  I fully understand KYC and AML requirements (even though they're b*ll*cks (puts at risk millions of honest customers while money launderers and organised crime have the resources to avoid).

I'm a small personal seller (and ebay already have my personal bank details  and my address from multiple deliveries over years - which only exists because my bank has completed KYC and AML checks).  I don't trust ebay to safeguard the information and their privacy policy is vague with respect to use of ANY data provided by customers for AI purposes.

Would be happy to provide other documents, but not ones which are vulnerable for identity theft.  Simply not worth it.

I don't understand why a "photo" is required (the ID specifically has to be complete and clear).  How is anyone going to legitmately use that?

But since most people just go along with it, they'll get away with (undercover of it being a UK compliance requirement).
