Apparently puppies are in short supply because so many people have wanted them during lockdown, and I worry that some new owners have not given much thought to the long term and when they are back at work.
Some argue that they ask more money to ensure the pup goes to a good home. A few hundred is normal but I'm beginning to think some are asking silly money just because they want to make a fast buck.
Recently I have seen very high prices, like this 7 month old collie, not even KC registered, for 3 Grand. Does this ridiculous price guarantee a good home for a collie that needs a lot of exercise and stimulation? Maybe I'm suspicious but the recent massive price hikes I have seen suggest to me that the sellers are exploiting the market for what they can get rather than genuine concern for their animal's welfare

All of what you say is probably true but sometimes those that can easily afford such idiotic prices are the very people a pup shouldn't be sold to.

I don't trust the motives of the seller who is asking so much. I bet they didn't pay 3 grand for the puppy when they got it at 8 weeks old, just 5 months ago. Sounds like it was a Christmas purchase.

High prices for pups always make me suspect someone is trying to make a fast buck. If prices are higher at the moment, and I don't know how they compare, maybe it's because people are trying to raise money they have lost out on through not being able to work as normal. A high price doesn't guarantee that a pup is in good health, neither does it guarantee that it will go to a good home. Our own dog was given to us by someone who paid a few hundred for a cute ball of fluff and didn't provide the good home he deserved. Luckily she gave him to the right family.

Where did my post go?! You didn't have it removed did you suze? ![]()
I only asked with a laughing smiley if you shouldn't be in bed as we were both still up, like when we use to post till deep in the night many moons ago.
Obviously normal banter is not allowed between friends anymore. ![]()

No idea what happened to it. You could ask the mods if you can be bothered, even if just out of curiosity. Little humour in here though these days.
But in answer, I was in bed but awake, and yes I miss this days long time ago.
I lost a long post yesterday and a new topic today - not removed but some authentication or something failed. Then I can't be bothered to go through the motions again!

Suze I didn't really think you had it removed to be honest. I can't be asked chasing it up. You would think there are more important things at the moment than deleting innocent posts.. ![]()
I've had the same with writing a long post that disappears somewhere in cyberspace. I often write those in open office now just in case, but not always.
I miss the midnight chats as well. I'm still a night owl. But things change and the mods and the trolls put an end to all the fun. Never mind. I pop in so now and then though to let a few people know I'm still alive. ![]()
