In my opinion politicians, whether they be UK or EU based do effectively have unfettered power over us.  I have voted at every single ballot in the same constituency for 39 years and NOT ONCE has the person I've voted for been elected!

The men and women who make up the UK Parliament, the EU Commission and Parliament don't even know I exist, let alone take into account my point of view when making decisions - the whole idea of representative democracy, as it has evolved, is nothing more than smoke and mirrors.  No longer do we have people standing in elections that have worked in their communities, know the electorate and their needs and are truly representative of them - we have 'professional' politicians appointed by their respective parties and who are expected, (and do), to represent and carry out the wishes of the 'party'.

As soon as you recognise this then it becomes apparent that the question of 'sovereignty' is just an illusion - the idea that it is possible to influence the actions of politicians a fairy tale.  Therefore when on the very rare occasions we, 'the people', get the opportunity to truly express our views in a referendum it well behoves us to ignore anything said by politicians and make our choice based on our own personal experience and not based on the most loudly expressed view.
