If there is a God, greater being or whatever you want to call it there is no reason to believe that they are any more benevolent than anyone else who has unlimited power - in fact the reverse is more likely to be the case.

The Greeks had the best idea with their Gods - each having numerous personality traits, some spiteful, some loving, some vengeful etc. . . . and they fought amongst themselves!
