Ah right, I have an old iPhone 6s and it does work on the iPhone if you follow the suggestion.

I can understand if you have uninstalled the eBay app and it doesn’t let you reinstall. I’m not going to lengths of buying a new phone just to accommodate eBay’s updated app.

To all that can’t update the app. Most people using this forum have been through similar problems. I wasted 3-4 hours trying to upgrade the app in vain. Galaxy S7, Android 8.

An Android device needs to be Android 10 or higher.

An Apple device needs to be iOS 17 or higher. iOS 16 can be used, although you may get a message saying it has to be iOS 17.

The Play Store and Apple Store are platforms for providing software and updates. The actual software is written by the manufacturer of your device. Feedback will warn other people about the problems.

eBay can still be accessed at www.ebay.co.uk via a computer or mobile phone browser. You must delete the app before accessing the website. There are other ways around it but I don’t want to complicate things. I mainly use the website and hardly use the app (used to use the app). I can no longer access the app and will not be buying a new phone, Unless someone has a spare £500-£1000 they would like to donate.

If you have a device the app can run on and it still doesn’t work, I’m stumped. The operating system may be corrupted. The only thing I can think of, is to do a clean Android or iOS install on your device and try again. This means losing all your data. It’s not something I would like to do but maybe the only answer. The Android or iOS version needs to be genuine. There’s no telling what’s in an unofficial version. If all else fails please contact eBay and post your results here. It may help someone else.

Hope this helps people to stop tearing their hair out. Please let know if you want to add anything or if it needs tweaking. I’ll keep a copy of it to post now and again.

I have no connection with eBay or work for them, apart from being a customer. If you contact eBay, be firm and express your feelings. Please bear in mind, the people at the other end are employees, just like you and me (until I retired). Please be polite and respectful. You’re more likely to be listened to.

On I phone 7 unless your phone lets you have latest software update 17. My won’t let me ebay for me won’t work

According to Google AI, the highest iOS version you can officially install on an iPhone 7 is iOS 15.

You can still access eBay via their website www.ebay.co.uk on a computer, mobile phone or tablet.

I have that already but the new ebay app wants higher

I think I may have a solution to this problem.

If you’re buying or selling on eBay, you will no doubt get emails from them containing a link to the item you’re buying or selling.

When you do get an email with the link to your item, click on the item link and it will take you to your item.

As the eBay page opens, you will see the annoying message, ‘Update Required’

DO NOT click ‘EXIT’ button within the ‘Update’ box, but simply go back to your email message and click the same item link and you should be taken to your eBay item minus the ‘Update Required’ message.

It’s not a permanent fix, but it should give you access to the app.

Good luck !

I will try it

That is exactly the problem. You need the minimum iOS 17 to update the app. We all think it's crazy but that's the way it is. Please express your feelings with eBay.

How do I let ebay know when I can’t use eBay

You have to be logged on at eBay to use this forum. You can go to one of their forums and leave messages or phone them.

How can I do that when I can not update to17 won’t use ebay anymore must be
a lot like me

I have one plus with android 12 but still can't update. It keeps telling me that this phone is not compatible with the app, it has been fine for a couple of years!

I have switched to Amazon ebay will lose out

Certainly not gonna get a new phone just to yes ebay!

I'm puzzled by eBay's update. I doubt they set out to lose customers. Somebody at eBay must have thought this was a good idea, didn't think it through, now it's hard for them to back down. It would only take a patch to cure this. I know nothing about software but used to work with super-humans who wrote software. I remember one guy being handed a Rubik's Cube, when they first came out. He completed it in 3 minutes. Wow. They hacked into a Hotel telephone system, we were staying in, just for fun. That's way above my brain power.

Anyway, back to eBay's app update. As mentioned before, I mainly used the website and just used the app for notifications. I know some people prefer the app. It's horses for courses. If you have the problem, please read through some of the posts.
