I can still access this on my laptop. I know exactly the frustration you are experiencing. I have been doing the same, and don't remember getting any message telling me this problem would arise?

Annoying isn't the word! I much prefer the app than the website, just easier and less hassle. Oh Well, as the great Bluesman once said.. Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give you the answer that you want me to .. !

So, basically without communicating anything, just wipe out all the people who are using a slightly older phone!

Yes, and recommending to use the browser?

It is bizarre to say the least particularly with no prior warning.

Most websites I visit are trying to push me towards using their mobile app. I presume this is so that eventually they only have one website to maintain. I find everything easier on my laptop and I can't afford £500-£1000 for a new phone. It is very strange that eBay are kicking people off the app, with older phones. I'm sure it's possible to have a version of the app which works with older Android versions. It worked OK for many years.

I have no connection with eBay or work for them, apart from being a customer. If you contact eBay, be firm and express your feelings. Please bear in mind, the people at the other end are employees, just like you and me (until I retired). Please be polite and respectful. You’re more likely to be listened to.

@ukretirementsale  There is another post titled...How to make the app work again on your older phone... eBay member paralleloid has posted a solution on how to get the app working again.

Thank you.

I had a look at the link. It mentions an Apple iPad. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 with Android 8. The message I get says 'Update' or 'Cancel' not 'Update' or 'exit'. Nevertheless, I tried selecting 'Home' but it's greyed out and does nothing. Also, I use Chrome not Safari. Are there any other ways round it?

Thanks to everyone who has replied to my question. It appears that not much can be done other than purchase a new phone. I am not doing that. I tried everything all respondents suggested (including safari) and as my phone can't update to android 10,it looks like ebay. co. uk is the only way back into the site. Very disappointing.

A fellow member has  found a way round this on the iPad with iOS 15

Open the eBay app

Ignore the Box saying ‘Exit’ or ‘Update’

Press the home button to go back to the main screen

Go to eBay in Safari

Click the ‘Open in eBay App’ button at the top

If it doesn’t work the first time, go back to Safari and try again.

Hope the above helps.

I am so sorry you are experiencing this ... Did you try the above link ? Some have had success but unsure with what types of phones.  @spiderling

If you go to the top of these boards, top left click on eBay New >>  Announcements, you will read all the recent announcements re the app issues,  also for the new Buyer Protection Fee which has appeared on some items now,  and to appear on all items soon.

For changes and updates,  it's a good place to start.

@bazza_46

👍 cheers thanks for that .

The instructions in this link do not work on Android devices. It is mainly for old iPads and maybe some Apple iPhones. Safari is a browser created by Apple. Does anyone have a workaround for old Android phones?

I have no idea... we are members here and not eBay staff... and people are trying to help those who are struggling to get the app to work... all the information I think is now on different threads to assist and the message from eBay is in " featured posts"....

It is so frustrating and the suggestions seem to be

a. Use the browser

b. Upgrade phone to support the new app.

Sorry I cannot be of any further help.

I just tried doing a similar thing on my Android, from the instructions for an iPad. It leads back to the same problem of upgrading the app which is not possible on Android 8. Hopefully, someone at eBay will see the light and give us a patch.
