I would like to ask a few questions before the oncoming slew of complaints about mandatory Simple Delivery begin from private sellers.

First off I’d like to say thank you for setting up an eBay action which gives automatic positive feedback to sellers who have sent items tracked, on time & with no issues are raised within 7 days,  This is long overdue and should be a boon to honest sellers.

We know that eBay does not allow items with offensive or abusive words or terms on the platform and that there is a, I believe, a list of words that automatically get kicked back by an automated system. Is there, and I doubt that this would be allowed, a way to see this list? The reason for the question is that we’re seeing lots of sellers with an increasing amount of items have offensive or abusive words in not only their items but the listing titles as well. As I understand it the current automated systems cannot “read” what is on a listing image and that sellers with such items should blur out, remove or in some other way disguise the offensive or abusive words/terms. When reporting such items to eBay Customer Support, they refuse to even mention some of the words on these items and state that they will pass it on to the appropriate team but no action that we can see, is ever actioned. The reason for this is that most of these are now slipping through the existing automated system because they are non-US offensive words which makes me believe that the list of words is US based and as such non american English terms are being allowed. So is there a way to see this list of offensive/abusive terms? We know that reporting these items, despite having obscene/offensive words in the titles & images doesn’t do anything because they have already been reported and the automated system refused saying they didn’t breach any eBay rules.

Hi @custom-giftsuk

Thanks for the positive feedback, I pass it back to the site team.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way that I'm aware of to show the list of banned terms and words. As far as I know it's a list that is uploaded in the back end, I haven't even seen a full list myself!

I know there can be a difference in some regions with what is considered offensive but we do try to get it as accurate as possible. When you speak to CS the do pass these suggestions back to the site team and have the list updated as soon as possible. Its worth keeping in mind that these updates are sometimes run quarterly so it can take some time for the addition to come into effect on the site.

Thanks,

Dave
