I’ve had the same ebay account for 18 years and they won’t let me buy a hedge trimmer because I don’t have a credit card to prove I’m 18 but they will sell me a hammer!!!
surely common sense says I didn’t set up my account before I was born.
All I want to do is cut my hedge,
Thanks

It is the law that you have to prove age when buying a blade, not just on ebay.
Ebay only accept credit card as proof.
Ask a friend with CC to buy for you.

eBay accepts only two methods of verifying your age.
One is by providing credit card details for verification. The card will not be saved or charged, unless you also choose to use it to pay. The other is by using a third-party partner of eBay called VerifyMyAge (details online).
eBay has obviously decided not to accept verification by methods which involve the production and return of documents before buying.
Don't dismiss the idea of getting a credit card, even a prepaid one where you can choose how much to load on it. Paying by credit card provides buyers with an extra layer of buyer protection that lasts for 120 days, compared to eBay's own 30 day money back guarantee. It's especially worthwhile for purchases over £100 when it also provides the protection of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
