seller refuses to cancel order

I bought an item from a seller and wasn't until i paid that I noticed it was collection only. It was a garden ornament. The location was in Cambridge and I am in Scotland so impossible for me to collect. I cancelled immediately and eBay put through the cancellation. However 3 days later the seller refuses to cancel. It says i can return the item after I receive it, but that is not going to happen as it is not getting delivered. I have sent umpteen messages stating I cancelled within minutes but they are not replying. I can't seem to get any answers from eBay assistant. Is it possible to actually speak to someone. I'm at my wits end, grateful for any help.
