they could indeed choose to use Royal Mail Special Delivery -given their primary listings were homemade copies of pirate radio recordings (listings trademarked with a trademark that doesn't seem to exist in the IPO).

All they needed to do was upgrade to Business Seller. Their choice not to.

Agree ,now Royal Mail has taken away higher coverage on recorded delivery and only offers £20 cover there is an advantage as it’s a standard rate with up to 750 coverage , but you must pack well , had recent first experience of this and eBay covered the damage after Royal Mail had played football with the packet .

So credit where due .

No, they haven't.

Royal Mail Signed For has been £20 for quite some time now. However, Royal Mail 1st/2nd Signed For (and 1st/2nd Standard) are bad services anyway...:

1) They do not offer full end to end tracking and Standard won't even say delivered if the postie is lazy enough to not scan the barcode at delivery

2) Standard and Signed For are more expensive than their Tracked and Tracked With Signature counterparts!!

Which means there is ZERO reason to go with Signed For 2nd Class when Tracked 48 with Signature exists. Etc etc.

Also... Simple Delivery uses Tracked 48 or Tracked 24, the latter for express services. There is NO OPTION for a signature on delivery. And of course the difference between £75 and up to £750 (so up to £675) is swallowed by eBay if there are any problems (though see above where people have provided proof of delivery, the buyer complains and then eBay tries to take the sellers' money regardless! Even though the seller should be covered under Simple Delivery rules anyway!!!).

So....

  • anything that is based off 1st and 2nd Class - AVOID - BAD SERVICES
  • Tracked 48 or 24 with Signature - impossible under Simple Delivery, you must use Custom Postage*
  • Above the £750 Simple Delivery cut-off, the only service that will cover you is Special Delivery, and one with a higher protection limit than the standard service (the standard service is there to cover anything above Tracked 24/48 but below £750, if you were posting it yourself via Custom Postage)

*and yes there are options to get Custom Postage even as a private seller, if you know what you're doing.

I am a private seller and do not use Simple Delivery on the vast majority of items sent. It takes a little more effort at the listing stage but is easily doable. Point in hand.

So I was happily selling stuff then today tried to make two adverts for woodworking chisels and add age verification postage and... No option for age verification postage only simple delivery. So I put them up hoping that it was included in simple delivery now and they got taken down then tried to get info on why I can't add age verified postage and no answer!? I know it's eBay and this sort of ridiculous logic seems to be never ending but what am I missing here?

Private sellers cannot sell any bladed articles on eBay - FULL STOP

Hi, that's not actually correct.. there are over 110,000 knives available for sale on E-Bay right now.. !!!!!!!Sharp blades, the works.

'....there are over 110,000 knives available for sale on E-Bay right now..'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are they from businesses? I can't see how private sellers would get around the Artificial Idiot on this 🤖🤡

Yikes  .... Looks at my pile of bladded items :0 . Maybe trying to push people into business accounts?  Actually thinking GameStop owner will save us taking over eBay surely it can't be any worse 😄 ? And yes there's loads of private sellers selling these things argh!!

I believe that you will find that these are probably from business sellers. I have several times tried to list Leatherman multi-tools, and the listings have been removed.

Oh my god just came across this from 3 days back: https://youtu.be/BXBcqYvhTuw?si=oUDbWL07wD5sWkGv it's even got a bladed item in the video being 'fixed' on one of my items the only option is end listing in this *bleep* resolution center. I'm hoping they can resolve this for the millionth time soon 😞 . Time to investigate I guess...

Update: managed to get it to list but I had to check multiple categories to find one linked to the item but with simple delivery unavailable for this item and take collect in person off. Basically it's an absolute mess of a Maze but I think there is ways through for allowed items only of course they just need to really sort it out argh!

Ps I think Leathermen is on the banned list sorry. 😕

**Update... It reverted without any reason even though it said 'saved' now the age verified postage is actually still there with no other postage available but it is saying can't list as it's not age verified postage. Even this forum is throwing up errors and problems just trying to edit and send a simple post! :0 I'm off to say to my mummy: help me... 😞

Pps Just now it came back to available :0 !

It's a complete joke , as a buyer , the last 2 items Ive purchased have all taken 10 to 14 days to reach me . The seller has posted out the same day with tracking showing parcel shop received the item.

I've another on its way that's now on day 8 since purchase. Evri seem to just let it sit at the sorting office until they can be arsed to do their job .

I should have used Amazon really where the delivery service is much better and yes , a charge for £2.99 for next day delivery if you've not got prime but much less headache .  Service is disgusting

Just to help anyone out who sees this: I've tried telling the eBay team about the problems. And at the moment I think in a nightmarish way the answer is that every category is slightly different so you need to change categories until you find one with age verification as an option and select postage only?! Very bad design 😕 ...

And then I get an email: royal mail are no longer offering age verified postage to private sellers... 😕

yep - a few posts on this now. Little ebay can do given its royal mail removing the service for private sellers.

This is essentially aiming to limit the sale of bladed articles to registered businesses, unless you accept the use of the more expensive UPS service (unsure if other age verification services exist outside of ebays postage options). I also accept that what ebay deems a bladed article is, heavy handed.

The whole thing is a mess unfortunately 😞 . I was hoping it would go the other way and get more relaxed after seeing royal mail allow meat cleavers and some other stuff... If the prices where lower as well it would really help as they seem way over the top in some cases...

My local post office is a 30 mile round trip from my home, and Evri collection points are much further away than that.  I booked a Royal Mail collection for today under the Simple Delivery system for an item I've just sold on Ebay, but something seems to have gone wrong and the postie didn't turn up - they are usually 100% reliable up here.   Having no control over what's happening is very unhelpful.

Did you get an email from Royal Mail confirming the collection date? The confirmation email usually arrives as soon as the collection is booked, so it's always worth checking, to reassure yourself the booking has definitely gone through ok.
