Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

I have a book Blind Corner by Dornford Yates, printed 1931, hardback, no d/j and cover on spine loose, but spine good. Pages in very good condition. Worth listing? Thanks Sarah

Yes. Just make sure that you describe the faults for the customer/show in a photo.

Why has no one made any comments on the poem by
Mary 666 ? 😞 there's just something about 666!

Thanks bamboo, have done it, but there isn't much to show except a horrid red back- no dust cover! But live in hope- die in despair-that's my motto

hi, nothing morbid about my 666, it's my dogs birthday!

thanks sue

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they are worthless. The ones I had as a child came in sets of ten, but this may be an earlier set. They are too heavy to post, and all the information is totally out of date.

Hello Sue, don't feel too bad about it, I have a full set 1959 and as manor-house said Worthless. 😞

hi thanks
i thought as much and your right they are too heavey to post.thanks anyway

I have a book - Britains Sea Kings and Sea Fights, I know it is missing a coloured plate frontispiece and the index but appears complete in the text. The other (3) copies I can find listed claim to have 760 (inc index) pages yet mine only has 442, it definitely starts on page one and as I said - appears complete, ending on page 442. I can't see that, although the binding is loose, there are over 300 pages of index etc missing?? Any ideas?

I found the same ones, Sage, and Worldcat didn't help, although that may be because I don't know how to search properly! If you ask on the dot.com Board, there are people who have access to loads of reference material. There is a thread, 'Ask any question ... '

Is there any chance that's it's a rebound part copy? Can't think why anyone would do that, though.

Hi Bee, I don't think it is rebound, the boards are illustrated and look extremely old. I'll ask on the board you suggest x

Hi Guys

I've been having a sort out of my personal book collection as I'm moving to a smaller place and found a book which is (very much to my surprise) a bit of a rarity.

It's Metropolis by Thea von Harbou (The Readers Library Copyright Edition) with an Aubrey Hammond dust jacket (which is where the value is)

There are two copies on offer via bookfinder at about $1850 each and the reprint is on offer at $950.

The book is in similar condition to the ones listed in good to very good condition a nice clean well bound copy but the dust jacket is in poorer condition. Unfortunately it has a 5cm tear to the top of the front cover and chipping and a small amount of loss to the top/bottom of spine and a small amount of loss to the corners.

Could anyone hazard a guess as to how much the dust jacket damage reduces its value and what would your starting price on Ebay be? or would you think it's better taking it to a specialist auction house.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Jeff

I can't help at all, Jeff, but thought you might enjoy this asking price ...

$19,500.00 ~ Metropolis by Thea von Harbou ~ True first edition (in German) with dust jacket ~ Basis for the famous film by Fritz Lang.

If there are no answers forthcoming this might be another one for the dot.com Board.
