In a mid-19th century unpaginated book published in London, would it have been rare or common to change from numbers, for the gatherings signatures, to letters in different editions/printings? What would it mean? I'm looking specifically at the 1841 English Hexapla published by Samuel Bagster. Some printings have letters and some have numbers. Which would have come first?
Thanks, Linda
