Hello, first time on this board (should have found it years ago!).
I have a question if anyone can help please?
I have a pocket sized book, obviously very old as the "s"'s are written as "f"'s. There is no date in it.
The title page says:
The History of Candid; (not Candide)
or,
All For the Best
Translated from the French of
M. Voltaire.
Cooke's Edition.
Embellished with superb engravings.
Printed for C. Cooke, no.17, Paternoster-Row, And Sold by all the Booksellers in Great Britain.
It has what looks like a leather decorated spine and is a bit bashed about but intact - lots of foxing.
I've looked on ABe Books, Addall, Googled it but can't find a reference to this particular edition. I notice that Cooke's editions of some classics are very old indeed - can anyone enlighten me please?
Many thanks.
