overcharged, combined postage

On 5th April I had 2 orders from one seller which have been charged not as combined postage but even more at £5.64+£5.64 then the original separate postage price (£2.96+£5.64) . Why?

The seller refused to discuss and cancelled transaction without my involvement. Ebay blocked me after my chat with a chatbot and emails. I’m not sure if they sent me an appeal link. Has anybody had the same case? What is the next step?

If you were buying from a Private Seller using Simple Delivery, eBay sorts out the postage labels and may combine postage if the Buyer as purchased on one transaction and the weight of the two items together.

The postage purchase is between the Buyer and eBay.

Really ?

Do ebay take consideration of the narratives the Seller had on postage?

Does the Buyer receive demerits for the cancellation, for no fault of their own doing?

- shame the access to leaving feedback for this part of a transaction could not be directed to ebay for their imput then.

I never had experience when combined postage was charged more than 2 original separate parcels.  How it can be possible that combined postage of 2 parcels is more expensive than the cost of them as 2 separate parcels? What is the purpose  to have combined postage?

The items you purchased cannot be seen by the members on this discussion forum, so we have no idea of the weight of the items.

There are many factors applied for combined postage e.g.  total weight, size, Courier used, location of the buyer (as some couriers charge a location fee if going to an UK surrounding island).

I've used eBay CS in Dublin a few times and they have been very helpful (usually in the mornings). If the chat is automative I type in Speak to an Agent up to 2 times and have always been put through.

If you want to share the item numbers, we could see if it was Simple Delivery. (If you don't want to, that's fine.)

Did you pay in one transaction for both items or separate transactions (1 order or 2? - you do say 2 orders in msg 1).

Was the delivery address somewhere remote/known for having higher postage costs?

Who decided that the cost of combined postage will be more expensive compared to 2 separate parcels? What is the point to have combine postage? Why should I pay more , not less for combined postage?
Why Ebay and the seller made decision  to cancel  transaction  without involving me, moreover blocking me from using ebay because I was waiting for seller and ebay adjustment of postage fee? (I emailed the seller to find about postage overcharge ).

Very often the Seller has little knowledge of what ebay auto opts them into - well apart from checking whats changed in the preference section every couple of days -

It seems more complexity leads to ebays way of wanting , actually happens.

The topic of the limited ability to send combined invoices has been rumbling on since last summer, do you feel that is a reflection of a well managed process, or a covert goal achieved?

Yes,I believe that all changes started from March 2025. Before  it was easy. This is opinion of sellers from  whom I was buying.  So  I had problems as a buyer too but together we usually get the solution. As far as I remember, the combi cost  was never more than cost of separate parcels. I know from  the past buy, that summary of combi cost was the same as cost of separate parcels but not more... I thought it was strange..

Hi wid205, thanks for your post.

If you confirm the item number, I'd be happy to look into this for you no problem.

Thank you,

Marco

I am currently away on my sabbatical, and will return in July. Please expect a delay in my reply
