Two problems now remain, one big, one just annoying.
I just cannot get Samba networking to work and it's doing my head in. I've tried everything I can think of but it will just not see the Windows computers on the LAN - it sees the workgroup ok, but times out when I go into the workgroup. I'm quite sure the conf is right, I've stopped the firewall. I've never had such a problem with Samba before.
As for the annoying one - I cannot get my windows for things like Firefox and Thunderbird to stay at the size I set them to. Every time I reboot they open maximised.
