I had an incident a few years ago when a white unmarked car with darkened windows (so I couldn't see inside) came racing up behind me on the A49, drove alongside me on the wrong side of the road round the next bend then pulled back behind me.I was quite bothered so on the next straight section I signalled for the car to overtake me and again it drove for about a quarter of a mile alongside me on the wrong side of the road. Eventually I braked, beeped my horn and waved for the car to get past, at which it pulled in front of me and braked sharply to a stop.

The occupants turned out to be four policemen, two of whom got out of the vehicle, and one asked to see my driving licence (which he just glanced at for a second) and asked me why I had beeped the horn and made gestures to them. I said that I was concerned that they were driving mostly on the wrong side of the road and I didn't want to get involved in their accident, to which they just smirked as they told me that they were police driving instructors on a training exercise. 😮

They told me I shouldn't use the horn or hands to other vehicles as it could be considered aggressive driving, and they were sure I wouldn't want to spoil my unblemished 40-year driving record: they had looked up my car registration on the police computer and glanced at my licence to check that it was my car. X-( There were no witnesses to their intimidatory behaviour so nothing I could do.

Similarly, there is nothing that you can do, Steve, so forget it. The Police know they're untouchable; indeed their union is trying to bring down the elected government by lying about Andrew Mitchell, parking ministerial cars in prohibited places and blaming the minister, not to mention Hillsborough, Ian Tomlinson G20, etc.
