I didn't agree with many of Mrs Thatcher's policies, but really admire her for a lot of things. She stood up to the Argentinians, she stood up to the European Union, and defended us as a country.
She was not popular with the miners - however, having been a young girl growing up in South Wales (during the miners' strikes, so seeing it from first-hand) I can also state most categorically that Arthur Scargill was a retrobate and a trouble-maker. He was responsible for stirring up bad feeling, encouraging the miners to strike for a long time (and causing a great deal of hardship, including families losing their homes). He, however, continued to receive his Union pay cheque, therefore suffering no particular hardship. He was, IMO, a bad apple.
Mrs Thatcher is the ONLY female Prime Minister we have ever had, and in that era, I really feel a lot of women felt inspired by her, encouraging them (us) to think, in this male-dominated world, "you know what - I can do more with my life - it is within my grasp".
No Prime Minister has been perfect - what human being could possibly be perfect? (we've had worse). But as someone said above (I think it was Mitzi??) she was a Mother who was loved, a family member - and who could be horrible to the family members left behind?
I wouldn't mourn her particularly, but give her due respects.
